I bought a Mossberg 500 from ATP in Summerville. It's my first gun and it's bad ass. I would've bought Matt's but guess he changed his mind about selling it....lol

Nice shotgun. What shells did you load it with?

My favorite for home defense is #1 buck. 16 pellets in a 2 3/4" shell vs. just 9 in #00.
#1 buck is a little hard to find since #00 has been the rage for so many years. #1 pellet size still penetrates 12" in meat targets.
Here's a good article about the wound effectiveness of the different shotgun shot sizes:
http://www.firearmstactical.com/briefs10.htm
Number 1 buck is the smallest diameter shot that reliably and consistently penetrates more than 12 inches of standard ordnance gelatin when fired at typical shotgun engagement distances. A standard 2 ?¥-inch 12 gauge shotshell contains 16 pellets of #1 buck. The total combined cross sectional area of the 16 pellets is 1.13 square inches. Compared to the total combined cross sectional area of the nine pellets in a standard #00 (double-aught) buck shotshell (0.77 square inches), the # 1 buck shotshell has the capacity to produce over 30 percent more potentially effective wound trauma.

What are the 3 1/2"s effects on ballistics in relation to home defense?

Great shotgun, love the position of the safety and forearm release over my Remington 870 police magnum.

Gearmesh,
I'm glad we're on the same team. I would never enter your property without a phone call in advance. :bigthumb:

Boggy is a long drive but a great range with no fees. Out in the woods with some great people that show up. Palmetto Shooters Forum is pretty good also.-Shane
