i have bought one (as a gift) at ATP, and took the CCW there, long ago.
i have been going to East Coast lately, they don't work on commission, and they always treat you like family, and they take a lot of time to explain stuff to my wife.
Dale, the gunsmith at East Coast said "we warranty any gun (new or used) for a year, and for the life of the manufacturers warranty: we will test it, ship it back, and test it upon return, prior to giving it back to you, so we pay all shipping and deal with the hassle"
that sounds pretty darn good to me. I have two old guns up there now, one broke, other needs tweaking. it's $45 for a deep clean (ultrasonic sink) and he said he would put the new parts in for free, since he has to take them out for the deep clean. so for about $100, i should have two old guns that run again for plinking.
only went into to Trader World once, seemed ok.

I've only ever been to ATP. Bought our Springfields there and my Mossberg along with some accessories and stuff awhile back.

I will go check out East Coast. All these thugs running around lately has made me want something for the house besides a handgun. I've bought from Trader World but not ATP.

To be honest, none of them here. I have never puchased anything at any of the shops here but have window shopped at them all. Just left ATP about 10 minutes ago. Two guys in there asked me if I needed help, when I replied that I was just browsing now, they just walked away. Didnt say "well if you need anything let me know" They could have atleast gave a name and offered to help if I had any further questions.
Everything here seems to be higher than in Conway / Myrtle Beach area. I know it doesnt make sense for you guys to drive to the beach to buy Ammo, but for every gun and accessory I have priced I can get it cheaper up there, and have great service at the smaller place right down the road from me. (The Gun Store on 701 in Conway)
I bought a Savage 308 Scope combo the other night at Walmart in Conway. MY stupidity didnt tell me to check with Dicks sporting goods. I had checked every other store in the MB area though. Walmart had the best price (until I went to Dicks) WHen I was talking to the guy at Dicks, he offered to bore sight my rifle for free since I paid more at Wal Mart, and let me check his work before he gave it back to me.

I shop at trader world for handguns. I would have to agree with all the gun shops in town being over priced. When it comes to long guns I go to Dick's sporting goods. Hopefully soon we will get an Academy Sporting Goods in town. They have really good prices and sell both handguns and long guns.

Most people veer away from ATP. If you buy ammo there....your paying WAY too much.
Alot of good people here...and most know what they are talking about

You did better than me. I was in ATP 30 minutes ago and no one said shit to me. I was debating on buying a Benelli Super Nova, but I won't be buying it from there.
I also stopped in to East Coast and no one asked to help me there either.

ATP... What a rip off. There is a new place on Bacons Bridge Road called The Ammo Dump. The guy there is cool, but will talk your ear off. He also owns the insurance company and u-haul rentals. Not the biggest inventory, but he has enough.
The place in West Ashley is nice (Charleston Rod & Gun), but I'm not sure how flexible they are on prices.

I'm in the minority. I prefer ATP. I can walk in there almost everytime and get what I am looking for. To me, there is value in their big inventory. I don't have to drive all over town looking for what I need and if I pay a couple bucks extra for the convienence, oh well. I'm one of those people that has to have what I want RIGHT NOW once i make up my mind that I'm going to buy it, so i like being able to go there and get it. I've always had great experience there. I think I have bought 5 or 6 hanguns in the last year or so from them.

I travel throughout the state with work and have found that the Greenville area has the best gun stores and the lowest prices. I purchase all of my weapons up there. I buy all of my ammo online with whoever has the lowest price but I usually buy at least 1000 rounds at a time.

Paul, he has a deal working on low priced DPMS AR-15's
around 7~8 out the door.
from what i understand, he is mostly ordering stuff for guys who KNOW what they want.
www.budsgunshop.com is a good way to find bottom price, but once they ship, you are on your own, is what I gather. any probs are between you & manufacturer.

I was in ATP Wednesday and had 3 different guys if I needed help or had any questions. Maybe its just me but I don't like to be bothered when i'm shopping. When I have a question ill ask them. As far as prices go they are a little higher but when you need something Today they normally have it.
I've also been to East Coast Guns and Trader World and have had similar experiences.

Palmetto State Armory is the best place in SC for AR type weapons. :bigthumb:

I will say the last time (not today) I was at ATP I spoke with Mr. Pendergrass for a WHILE about my Arisaka rifle. We were able to pin point a time line and location where it was in the South Pacific theater. He was very helpful, the other people that work for him from what I have observed just seem somewhat have a power trip going on because they get to wear a gun...

I definitely agree on ammo seeming pretty high. I usually buy mine at Walmart now.
I've had mixed experiences going to ATP - sometimes they actually seem interested in helping, and other times they ignore you until you approach. Depends on the person too though. They were helpful when I bought my Springfield XD. Took a helpful one on one session before buying my gun also.

Village gun and pawn in bennettsville, sc. He does not keep much of an inventory. But if you know what you want,he can get anything and his prices are the lowest. It is just a hole in the wall pawn shop, but those guys have never been anything but nice to me. If you have LEO credentials, lawmans in Cola cannot be beat..but that would be on limited product lines. And from my experience when I was MUSC,prices rise once you get to exit 199 in I-26 and rise as you go east..

There is also a plce in the upstate that is really good. Probably the most knowlegable crewI have met on AR style weapons. I do no think they runnthe traditional brick and mortar business however. I got aa little ruger LCP from them several years ago and they were extremely courteous and helpful. I will look and see if I can find the receipt and see who they are..

I asked about the PSA M4 carbine on the M4 forum, they should be ripping me to shreds and hoisting my entrails on a flag pole soon.
the AR forums are SUCH gun snobs, if it ain't over $2000, they don't even want to talk about it. and if it ain't what THEY own, it is just garbage.
the snobbery on there makes the forums about useless for just discussing plinking guns.

Despite the AR platform having many followers, I never could warm up to its inherent design flaws. When you have a design that is prone to a slam fire by leaving a small firing pin dent on the primer when releasing the charging handle, to a hot dirty receiver from just low round counts, doesn't warrant being a reliable battle weapon to me. On top of all that, by design it has a forward assist button just in case a round doesn't go all the way into battery!
If Glock would ever build a rifle or carbine with the same ease of assembly and reliability of their pistol line, I'm sure you would have a gun that you could absolutely without a doubt trust your life with anywhere you go on this earth.
Until then, I'll take an M-14 or a Mini-14 that is gas piston operated anyday over the AR platform.
