Apparently the people involved dont want this info public on CHP and ask for it to be removed. Rightfully so.

This thread will get deleted too and this will continue to be a big elephant in the room on this site.
Instead of deleting it, how about leave it and everyone can show support for everyone involved. It's a rough time for both sides of the accident I am sure.
It was a freak, sad accident, but it was still an accident. I feel bad for Barry's family and also Tara and her family. This is a time for friends and family to show support and help everyone involved get through it. This is already public information on every other site- so of ALL sites, CHP should be the one to show some support for Tara.
There is no need to sweep it under the rug. It was an accident. Barry was a good man and will be missed and may he rest in peace.

This could be why they dont want any second hand info being posted on a local website. Just saying.
DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -
A North Charleston man was killed late Sunday night after his car flipped over on a drag strip in Dorchester County, pinning him inside.
The accident happened around 10 p.m. at the Dorchester Drag Strip near Ridgeville, off Highway 78. The race came to a stop while paramedics rushed to help the driver, a 40-year-old North Charleston man.
The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident, but say no charges will be filed.

DORCHESTER — A driver died at the Dorchester Dragway Sunday night after his truck struck another racer, flipped and hit and concrete pole.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the man as 40-year-old Barry Wright. Nisbet said Wright had been racing a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck against a Ford Mustang when the Mustang lost control and spun around.
The back end of the Mustang hit the back end of the pickup, causing Wright to lose control and roll over, according to Nisbet. He said the truck pinned Wright against a post.
Nisbet said Wright died of positional asphyxia, meaning he couldn’t breathe.
Dorchester County sheriff’s Maj. John Garrison said the other driver was not injured in the 9:15 p.m. crash.

Very unfortunate. Tara/Rob again very sorry this happened to you and that you were involved with this tragedy. I hope you handle the grieving well and recover at your own pace. Also my condolences to Barrys familiy. It must have happened about 10-15 minutes after I left.
If you go to the track try to take every precaution possible to remain as safe as possible but know you are not guaranteed to survive and get to go home to your loved ones. This sports consequences are far greater than its rewards.

Was checking for an obituary and found this. I feel they could have left out Taras name but it is what it is now.
http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2011/nov/08/crash-at-dragway-kills-man/
DORCHESTER -- The Dorchester Dragway is a place where roaring engines, squealing tires and white-knuckle excitement are the norm.
On Sunday, it became a place of tragedy.
Barry Wright, 40, of North Charleston sat behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck at the Dorchester Dragway around 9:15 p.m. Tara Griffin, a 24-year-old Summerville woman, drove a white Ford Mustang in the next lane over.
At some point after they gunned it off the line, the back of the Mustang "got loose," from Griffin, she told Dorchester County deputies. Her car spun and clipped the back of Wright's truck.
Wright lost control, and the truck rolled over, according to County Coroner Chris Nisbet. The truck pinned Wright against one of the light timing poles, where Wright died of positional asphyxia, Nisbet said.
Wright became trapped inside his truck and couldn't breathe. He had died by the time rescue workers arrived.
Gerald Mishoe, a regular at the track, said the racing usually goes well into the night and sometimes into morning. On Sunday, with Wright's truck attached to the timing pole and his mother crying, Mishoe said he found himself anxious to leave.
"I've never seen anyone killed or hurt seriously," he said.
The Delee family opened the Dorchester Dragway more than 25 years ago off U.S. Highway 78 just past the Oakridge Landfill. Family members believe their strip, an old cotton field that four brothers converted into a race track, marked the first minority- owned dragway.
People gather there every Sunday night to barbecue, sell refreshments and cheer on their favorite cars. Spectators pay $5 to get into the weekly "grudge matches."

I have been going to Dorchester since the gates opened, as a matter of fact Elijah Sr, pulled me from drinking and street racing to organized racing. In the 25 plus years of racing I have heard of more fatalities in local street racing scene than at any of the local tracks. From my point of view, not even 10 feet away from the vehicles on the starting line, it was a definate freak accident. My prayers go out to both families involved.

I assume these people have no clue, have never been there, have never raced, don't know anyone in the racing community and don't know anyone that was involved. The most they know about racing, the event and the people involved is what they read online in a news article. So arguing with them would be a losing battle and they would never understand where your coming from while continuing to live their non existent ignorant self centered lifes.
Like Gerald said "If I don't like the station I change the channel." These people need to learn that and stop trying to make others conform to their beliefs and opinions. Because regardless of what they say this accident will only bring all of us closer.

They probably have no idea how many lives are saved by race tracks, pulling it off the streets either. We had to hold up white sheets Sunday cause Live 5 News got turned around at the gate, and they wouldn't let them in, and the EMT's were afraid they would be filming from over the fence with high powered lenses. Thats rediculous, and not the time for pictures. Show some respect for heaven sake..

Now Chris your trying to use logic here. Just remember how the local print media thinks. It was also very dissapointing reading all the posts on YB last night. I understand people speculating, but they were not there and don't have a clue as to what happened. I walked down that track after the accident and had to curl my toes to keep my shoes on. It was that sticky all the way down. I just feel very bad for Barry's family and for Rob and Tara who have to live with this. My prayers still go out to all of them.

I completely agree these people have no clue how many lives are saved by the track providing us with a safer place to race.
Ive also been in the position of having to hold up a sheet while the coroner identified the victim of a tragic accident so onlookers/media/family wouldn't gather and there is nothing enjoyable about it.

Maybe people should just adhere to "Just because you can say or do something doesn't mean you should."
Freedom of speech protects the right of a citizen to speak out against his or her government without fear of retaliation. It does not give people the right to spew false and slanderous accusations. That's all I'm saying.

Wow, I have been super busy this week and haven't been on to check out CHP until today. Yesterday one of my coworkers said something about a bad wreck at Dorchester over the weekend and I thought nothing of it. It happens. Its part of racing. Then when I sat down with the paper this morning and saw the story my heart sank. I have been trying to come up with the right words to say all day, and I still haven't found them. Tara and Rob, I am so sorry. From what I have heard Tara is not hurt (physically) and I hope that is true. I'm sure the emotional pain is awful, but we are all here to support you. It always seems like the worst things happen to the best people. If you guys need anything you know I'm right around the corner. Not at all. That would defeat the point of anonymity.
Took the words out of my mouth.
Damn... thought you were smarter. I've been fooled before.

Ryan and Corey stuck around as well. Props to them as well.
It definitley proves how short life is. Live every day. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Right.
See how that turned out for Frank O. Hunt aka "Afternoon Delight" when he was the spokesman for the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office. He thought he was anonymous too.

I'll be okay. I don't make threats, affiliate anything with any law enforcement agency, give private info or anything else to get me in trouble. Thanks for your concern though.

I know Barry's ex wife who is married to a friend of my sons.
The ex wife flew to the west coast to meet their son who is in the coast guard & was out at sea at the time of the accident.
Barrys son was a fine young man, i hope he handles his dads death. Bill

Two kinds of people go down the track. Those that have wrecked, and those that will. It is inherently dangerous, but it is an accepted risk by those that love racing. Terrible news that a life was lost, but it seems it wasn't from carelessness or neglect. Just an unfortunate situation all around. Prayers to the Wright and Griffin families.

I personally say " God, I am in your hands and please keep me safe. If not, I know it is my time". I lightly smack the helmet and make sure it is adjusted and I pull on up to the beams.
Prayers to everyone involved. But if you believe in God and fate. Than you know, when it is your time it is your time. Could happen to anyone.
From some information I have heard about Mr. Wright, I believe he was a great man that has a passion for drag racing. I wish I could have met him because he seemed like a great role model for all.

I don't want to derail this thread any further, but please don't confuse my distain for cowards that take potshots from the cheap seats with concern for your professional well-being.
You equated your P&C online persona with the likes of early and scpdblue, not me. I merely pointed out that if push comes to shove, libelous comments can come back to haunt someone who "hides" behind perceived anonymity.
Carry on.

I'll agree to disagree. You're making it more than it is.

Maybe you have the wrong site? I dont think anybody here has said one negative word about him or the other party involved. I agree nothing negative or speculatory should be posted about anyone involved in this accident. :bigthumb:
