I was went hunting with a friend yesterday and to tell you the truth we only had phone service near the main road over 6 miles from us. We had just finished a drive and this guy pulled up in his truck with one of these in it and low and behold I started receiving text and all. I was amazed I looked at my buddy and was like WTF no service and then service and full bars mind you. My buddy and I started talking about it and laughing that we had better make a few calls before we lose service again and the guys around us told us he had a cell booster in his truck. Dude looked like a nasty rolling electronics gadget truck. The closer I got to his truck the better the signal I got-full bars in his truck. I am looking into getting one of these for my personal use just seeing if anyone else had any experience with it.

As long as it has a signal to boost it will work.

That is what is typically know as a BDA( Bi Directional Amplifier) and yes they have to have atleast some signal to work. It needs an external antenna to recieve and trsnmit on.
