I am looking into purchasing a bicycle for commuting, fitness and recreation. Just curious if any of you ride; and what opinions, if any, you have about one manufacturer over another. My riding will be about 90% road, so mountain bikes are out of the question. Just looking for something I can ride to work; and, occasionally, use for some light trail duty.

Here is what I am leaning toward:
Trek 8.2 DS

I worked at a bike shop in CA for 5 years and I still ride a lot but mostly BMX. I don't have any major complaints against Trek but I always felt that more quality per dollar could be obtained from Cannondales but I don't think their current lineup really offers a good setup for what you want. Although check out the Bad Boy bikes by them they are bad ass but a bit pricy.

Shaun tell me you aren't one of the guys riding three wide on County Line rd. and Hwy 165. I'm gonna monster truck their asses one day.

I ride, all mountain bikes though. Personally I like specialized. Trek does make good products.

Sorry, Rob, I see stationary bikes the same way I see treadmills: a whole lot of work to go nowhere.

And, Shawn, I am definitely not one of those douchebags. 'Share the road' applys to bikes, too.

I'd ride to work everyday, but the base has so many restrictions and safety gear, takes the fun out of riding. plus rolling down stall rd is out of the question, i'd be another douche clogging up cross county rd
