by a Berkeley County Sherrif.....he followed her from while she was on I-26 all the way home, which is about 10 miles. She said he was on her ass the entire way and she would see a white flash once inwhile like he was taking her picture. He drove by when she parked in the driveway and went inside, he then came back parked in the driveway behind her car and lit up the inside of our house with his spot light. I call the sherrif's office to find out what is going on, I get a call back saying he was following her cause he thought she was drunk. My question is why didn't he pull her over in the 10 mile route, why didn't he pull in behind her and get out when she got out and wtf were the bright flashes......I don't need this shit right now
thanks

Well ok then. Sounds fishy to me. If he had an idea she was DUI, he should have pulled her, Not follow her and then come back and shine a light at the house.

I agree, if she was drunk and wound up getting into an accident, couldn't the officer be held liable

She said he did start to turn into the neighborhood before ours, but then backed out of the road and sped back up to her.....we live in Hunters Bend off Royal Rd

We're you home? If she was not DUI why not confront him once at the house?

I was sleeping, my wife came in and woke me up, he was already down the road by the time I got outside. I turned the outside light on and went into the road to try to flag him down but he kept going.

Weird.....hate to think it but maybe he was following to see if she pulled into a vacant driveway? Maye he saw your ride and gave up his intentions?

it is really weird and creepy, I have some cameras on my house and the footage from 10:30-12:00 is lost, my wife got home about 11:45 so I can't even see the guy in my driveway....oh well, hope it doesn't happen again

That's really sketchy. I think I would be doing a little complaining to the higher ups. There has to be a way to find out what cop it was, right?

You are the thinking of the milkman.
Jimmy, good luck on finding out who it was. I would file a formal complaint and that next time the police officer should call for backup. What if you came outside unloading on that police car? Officer put his life in major jeopardy imo

Maybe tell the wife to keep a camera handy. Regardless, I would file a complaint with the county sheriffs office. Something is better than nothing.

That right there is the key. If you don't complain and/or follow up with that complaint, no one will be held accountable for their actions.

does she have to file the complaint or can I?

It would be better coming from her since your version is largely based upon hearsay. Now, that is not to say I wouldn't blowing up Sheriff Dewitt's phone over it...

Was she driving your Mustang, or something ordinary? I have cops follow me all the time in the hot rod, but never seem to see any if I'm in the old ladys car...
Honestly though, it was probably nothing...

An off duty cop in a four door infinity gave me the stink eye on the Glen McConnell. Guess he was pissed off that my acura was faster.

Maybe he really thought she was drunk. I am thinking his name was given to you already and could be again. I follow suspicious vehicles a lot and if I don't get a violation I let em go. Nothing saying how far you can follow or when you make the stop. Don't know why he shined the light but sounds like maybe he was just letting his presence be known.

Might be right there. After Zac ripped off a clip full of rounds from his AR-15 and Corey emptied his pistols magazine into a pallet the Police drove by my place and just shined a spotlight our direction to let us know they rode out. They then went on their way. We got the point and knocked it off for the evening.

i don't think the sheriff has jurisdiction to pull her over on the interstate?
FWIW, in retrospect, she could have called 911 and put it to rest.
it's very hard to second guess stuff like this, but yes, I think I would probably ride up & see the sheriff personally, just to be nosy & look around the office,
and to meet the guy. He may or may not have an answer, but if he's elected, it would be nice to meet him.

Yes they do, as long as it is in the County. Which also encompasses any city entities within the county.

My wife gets off exit 203 and comes up Treeland to Royal to Discovery (Tom Conley park and Sangaree Middle School) that's a long way IMO. I have told my wife if this happens again to call 911 and ask to either be pulled over or ask the Sherriff to back off.
As for the shining light and wanted his presence known, my wife pulled in the driveway, the Sherriff drove past her getting out of the car and drove around the block, came back, parked in the driveway and turned on the spot light.
It happened, nothin I can do about it, unfortunately, wife doesn't want to make a complaint. The whole thing could've been handled differently IMO, like pull her over, don't ride her ass or park behind her in the driveway and get out and make sure she is ok......
I have met several Sherriffs before, between being on our pool commity, we hire them every Saturday during the summer and and calling them for the many problems in our neighborhood, I just don't remember their names.

Yeah it does sound odd. After dealing with the lowest of the low on a regular basis you sometimes have to remind yourself that regular people can be offended by things you have to do to keep the thugs in line. Riding her bumper is a bad idea no matter what though. Even if you have lights and sirens on in this state and you rear end someone that stomps the brake, your at fault.
If it happens again..make the complaint yourself.

Not always true for a few reasons, but I wouldn't risk it.

Pulling in the driveway is the weird part- the rest doesn't seem like a big deal. Wonder why he pulled in?

I've never had an officer pull into the driveway before. usually the two or three cars park in the street. But I have had them following too close. I mean close enough that I do not see any part of the hood of the car. They are just trying to make you swerve while looking in the rearview mirror and then that gives them the right to pull you over and give you the ticket of their choosing.
