Well with gas the way it is getting, and my other project on hold for major funds, I picked up a new DD.
Here she is in all her 319,000 miles worth of glory, including the flat black bed and gloss black cab......a 1990 Mitsubishi Mighty Max with the 2.4L multi-port injection 4 cylinder and 5 speed.
Interior and body are in VERY GOOD shape, and she runs like a top. Picked it up from a friend of mine who is a mechanic and owned it since damned near new. Needs an AC compressor and tailgate straps......and......THAT'S IT! Gets 27MPG as she sits, lol.
Gonna be a fun project down the road, once I'm done DD'ing it.

I saw an 87 dodge ram 50 for $1500 only had 118k. I think it's the same kind of truck. Was thinking of buying it. Everyone I've ever known that's had a mighty max has kept em until totaled. Great trucks.

Really good shape it seems. I had an 87 my dad bought new I drove through high school never got near that kind of MPG but it was descent.
I got to where I could do the timing belt and balance shaft belt in a parking lot at night in 45 minutes with hand tools... put more timing belts on it then spark plugs in the 300k miles it was in my family. Very reliable though.

Yeah this one has had nothing more than timing belts in it's 319k miles. I got it for $1000.......so that ram 50 is a steal with those miles.
They really are great trucks. Was talking with a friend at work that has had 3 of them, and come to find out, our resident exhaust guy Bad Bob was a mighty max guy years ago and they worked on them together or some shit.
Anyway, the plan is to tune it up, replace some gaskets and timing belt, drop it a little bit on some Z71 wheels I got for CHEAP, and drive it until it blows up. Then it's turbo 4G63 time.
It really is amazing how cheap the parts are. I got an AC compressor (reman), expansion valve, and drier today for a grand total of $128 shipped to the door.
The rebuild kit for the 2.4 is cheap too. Camshaft, crankshaft, pistons, rings, lifters, gaskets, the whole 9 yards, $700. Can't believe how cheap the parts are. And coming from older cars my whole life, and going to the SS, I am glad to finnally have room in an engine bay again to do work, without having all the accessories in un-reachable locations, lol.
If you have the chance to pick one up for 1000-1500, DO IT. Even if you put 300k miles on it, they will always be worth 1500 or so as long as they roll.

I'm kind of jealous, I've always wanted to do one myself. I can't help a whole lot with the actual swap but if you need any help working on the 4g63 I'm your man :cheers

If I was in SC any longer I was gonna pick up a mighty max or D50. Tough little trucks that are good for beating up on.

That was my first vehicle. She was white with a 5-speed, learned how to drive a stick with my dad yelling at me and tons of memories out on the back roads of IL. I got it for 500 bucks and only needed a carb rebuild.
