I'm planning on bringing the kids down to Charleston tomorrow to check out the aquarium.I'm not very familiar with the area, and just figured out apparently there are two aquariums-the SC Aquarium and the Charleston Aquarium.
I was wondering which one you locals reccomend?

I have taken my kids to the one with the white aligator, not sure which one it was. It was ok, kinda small and a little bit pricey, we went on fathers day...dads were free...lol

There's only 1 fish tank in Charleston. Take them to the Yorktown instead.

Thats a good experience right there... theres plenty of fish tanks, take them to see some history.

I agree with the Yorktown, Ft Moultrie is also a good one.

Take them to the Yorktown. If you want to go to an aquarium take them to Ripleys in Myrtle Beach.

i agree with everyone else, the aquarium is like a 10 minute ordeal, and way overpriced.... yorktown or moultrie are better choices, or do all of the above.

I was very disappointed in the aquarium. I went in 2010, and will never be back.

Charlestowne Landing is kinda cool with Settler's Life village and the zoo. Yorktown is fun. There is a Chuck-e-Cheese here, as well. Downtown might be boring depending on how old they are. Maybe a carriage ride? Waterfront park is cool. Lots to do!

i want to say it was around $35/person for a 5 minute ride... it isnt super cheap, but 5 minutes is still a pretty good ride and worth it in my opinion... i think 10 minutes is $60 each

it was my first ride as well as his (he was 3 1/2 at the time) so i figured why not... it's one of those moments i will always remember with my son :bigthumb:

I think people are missing the point, he wants to take his "children". Not many "children" want to walk around a rusty aircraft carrier and stare at static display aircraft vs. live fish, sharks, penguins, and the petting tanks. I have a 5yr old and a teenager and I can tell you what they'd rather see 10 out of 10 times. Me personally, I love Patriots Point and the history.

He looked like he really enjoyed that!

Thanks for the clarification,I apparently found different web pages calling the aquarium by two different names.
I appreciate all the responses....y'all probably saved us from a spared us from a waste of a trip.
We've been to Ripley's in MB and was thinking this would be similar.....sounds like it's not even close and not a "featured event" on a one day trip.
We're just gonna play it safe and take 'em to Riverbanks (again).

I used to live in atlanta and can say the 4.5hr trip to atlanta is worth it to see the aquarium there. its quite epic, makes the one here in charleston not even worth thinking about....and then you're in atlanta so you might as well stay the night and have some fun.

Are you kidding me? When I was a kid all I wanted to do was go to the Yorktown, LOVED going there, even spent the night there in the barracks when I was in the Cub Scouts. What little boy doesn't like military stuff and airplanes?

Atlanta is the best aquarium I have been to! I actually go to the local one a good bit with my son its main focus is the local aquatic life and if your an outdoorsman you can spend time just observing behavior. Its kind of like going to a car show and not being into cars sure there are cool looking things but if you don't know what your looking at you tend to blow through faster.

Is that the giant tank like the one in Japan? I heard the one in ATL was enormous!

Yeah the tank is ridiculous even has tunnels to walk through or ride those people moving things like the airport. If you bring your iPod you can do a self guided tour just download the mp3 at the front desk.

i'm not into fish and marine stuff at all but regardless my 3yr old daughter wasnt very interested either and she is crazy about all animals, so we made it through VERY quick, probably not really ten minutes like i said but it was less than 30 minutes for sure.... thats also comparing to Atlanta Aquarium aswell so that might have something to do with it.

i remember when i was young Yorktown and waterfront/battery in general was my favorite thing to do around here.

i still prefer all of atlanta's attractions, coca-cola, aquarium, zoo, braves game, CNN, underground (before it was taken over) centennial park and the REAL johnny rockets..... i spend a couple weeks a year there for the past 15years and do all of the above everytime and never get tired of any of them.
