After a night full of new bests, I guess Shawn and Corey squeezed the car a little too hard last night. Lisa and I were on the way to lunch in the hot rod and it started breaking up and misfiring pretty bad. Seems like it could be a number of things. Possibly the opti, a valve spring or maybe a rocker arm. I guess I will tear it down tonight.
no vacation for the jack stands. srry to hear that. hopefully it is a simple fix.

Thats what happens when you let an old man sit up, you cant expect him to run the 500 yard dash after sitting on his butt eating cheetos for years.............. He'll have a heart attack.
Good luck, hopefully its just something small.

5 passes in 2 week was a little much! :hysterical:
I did find a line for the second kit had come loose and was probably causing a huge vac leak. I got that all tighten back up, but didn't have a chance to drive it again.
I will know more after tonight.

It's still not fixed. It starts to misfire and run like shit once it goes into closed loop, it will then throw a CEL anr clear up. I believe it is the oxygen sensors, but didn't not have a chance to pull the code yet.

Ouch, if I remember correctly I just replaced an O2 on my moms 97 WS6 LT1 bank 1 Sensor 1 it was like 200.00 for the AC delco sensor. LT1 O2's are kind of pricey. Hopefully its the sensor. Car runs good by the way.

Thanks. I'm going to give the Bosch sensors a go. $119 for the pair.

thought the ole shade tree trick was to soak them in Carb Cleaner overnite (use mom's tupperware so won't evaporate)
and burn them off with a plumbers torch, and DVM the resistance, see if they break down when heat goes up?
LT1's....like women, can't keep them from spending money.

Eh, they need to be replaced anyhow.

I found 2 new ones for 70 shipped, but I am going to verify fuel pressure before I purchase.

Could be a number of things, but if its breaking up at WOT then its not the o2.
without pulling codes its throwing darts in the dark.
is it only under a load that it does it, or all the time, or just at idle?
Matts94Z28
04-17-2012, 09:47 PM
It's not doing it at wot, just under part throttle while in closed loop. Runs great in open.
I didn't get a chance to pull codes or log it today. I will know more tomorrow.

race gas probably took out the o2 then....
how much you putting to it with both stages.

Looks like a dead 02. I just got a chance to look at a log from yesterday and it went into close loop as I pulled in the driveway. One sensor is reading 4mv.

Where did you buy from? I'm thinking about replacing mine as they have aleast 70k miles on them. I have one that takes 30+ seconds to warm up.

There is a dealer on amazon that sells them for $35 per sensor. Can't beat it.

Apparently the profit margins in auto parts are huge. I looked up the fuel pump for my silverado on amazon and it was ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS less than parks, oreilly, etc. Same brand/pn, not a chinese knockoff.

30 seconds really isn't bad without a close coupled converter. I give them 90 seconds when I'm diagnosing a p0420 code on most cars.

Back up and running just in time for the 17in tire class at union this weekend.
Big thanks to papabear for the extensions! All we had to do was swap the ends to get it going again.
Taking the car out to lunch in a few.
