Looking at PI, Camerons, and one from Precision. PI is $850 while the others are 750 plus shipping. Pats transmission who has done work for me before wants the Precision triple disc but Camerons says the triple disc will kill my trans and PI says I dont need it. I'm looking for a 3000 stall. If one of you tranny guys can hook me up with a jobber discount I will feel warm and fuzzy and would pay you to put it in.
specs are...
2007 mustang 4.6
5r55s
comp cams 234/254@.050 .450 lift. 109cl
car should weigh in around 3600lbs not really sure
26" tire
4.10 gear
not racing it just want to maximize potential
Thanks 817-0422

Call Cameron. You will be amazed at all the details and questions he wants to know before building you a converter.

Another vote for Cameron. Plus he will cut and readjust it for 75 bucks or so if you mod the car and need to change things up later.

I have had some problems with a couple of Cameron's converter's. He did a great job on many for me over the years but just could not get the last one right...

isn't PI precision industries? So you are really comparing 2 converters.
I wouldn't waste the money on a triple disc but I'd also go for more stall then you're looking at with the weight of those cars and that cam.
My 3200 stall 2.73 gear 3600lbs car is still too tight for me...

He may be talking about precision of new hampton vs Precision industries.
Id junk the 5r55s and swap in a 4r70w.

If you ever had both of these transmissions apart on a bench at the same time for comparison, you would wonder how the 5R55 platform holds up to what it does. The hard part structure on the AOD/4R70W platform is much more robust for holding some power.

4r70's are 3 grand. When it blows i'll swap it but for now the 5r55 will have to do.

I would listen to Rob, Gerald and Zac on this topic. Rob has my full confidence on all things transmission related and Zac is right on about Cameron!

I'm ordering the 10 inch 3000 stall from camerons today. We'll see how the tranny does.

Is that the stall that Cameron suggested? Good luck, it will be a new car with a stall in it.

It was my understanding that 2800-3200 was the average stall for a street/strip car.(?) -Shane

It's a street car with a noisy cam. No need for outrageous stall. Most guys running this combination use a 3000 stall. Besides, Cameron is going to let me know what he thinks. It's a single disk so its going to slip a little higher. They think its going to blow up my transmission anyway.

for what street car, what power level and weight, and where is max torque? i dont have alot of experience with modded 3v cars but isnt peak torque up there quite a bit? with the 4.10 gears that 3k stall will feel stock, all just my opinion/theory though

when does lockup occur on your car (mph)? i think the trans will be fine unless you are hotlapping, but i'm not a transmission tech like them, i'd believe everything gerald/rob/cameron say without batting an eye.
at the end of the day its your car and if you're happy thats all that matters, i just know i was JUST in the same situation and said fuck it i'll go 3600 and ended up getting a 3200 (even though i'm sure i told the salesman 3600 after he recommended 3200) and even though i think i'd been much happier with the higher stall i doubt its worth worrying about the 400 rpm.... maybe my converter is just very efficient down low making it feel tight to me, yours could feel totally different.
i will without hesitation go 4k stall next time.

i dont think ive ever bought a converter based on stall speed, other than the used Precision i got for my tbss, ive always just got one built for the application, which is what cameron will do for you

Isn't the whole point in swapping the converter to get the engine to peak torque quicker? Atleast to me that's all a higher stall is for. Its a balance of stall speed, str and streetability.
I agree that Cameron will not steer him wrong but he can only suggest what he thinks the customer would be happy with because streetability is all opinion. Some people hate loose converters some don't mind, Cameron has to make a judgement call in this department based on his opinion since it is a street car.
Still just my opinion.

Mr Cameron doesn't use opinion, he uses the facts that you give him and then lets you know what he suggests or rather what you should use.

But streetability is the determining factor in stall speed for a street car... how loose someone can deal with is purely subjective. Ideal stall speed for the track would be 500 rpm less than peak torque rpm so any less than that is fine, how much less depends on what the owner is comfortable with.
