we have a ZL1 coming to our dealership also should be in any time really. We have a 12 camaro in now that is having an edelbrock eforce put on for the customer and it seems to be a nice kit. but with a L99 in a auto camaro only supposed to make 465, weak

I love the car. Not sure why everyone keeps bagging on it. The car has come leap years in performance from where it was when it was killed off; it's an all around performer with a warranty.

for 60k+ it should give the chevy guys at least 1 thing to brag about... they are nice cars and all but when theres another car coming out that looks to be better in almost every way the avg user will feel, its got to be a disapointment. Never know, the 13 gt500 has been kept pretty hidden as far as performance... that might be a bad thing or a good thing.

But if they don't find a way to put that power down, it's game over. Historically speaking, there has never been a mustang that 0-60'd anything astonishing because they never put a big tire under the car.

+1. Ten years ago these platforms were both under 400 hp stock. Personally I have always chosen the GM vehicle, however the fords are making an awesome product as well.

Have you kept up with the Shelbys specs? It will destroy the ZL1. I only guess that they built it to keep up with the 2012 Shelby but in a year the Shelby went from 550 to 662hp and 631tq with a stock speed of 202mph. I doubt the ZL1 will touch the Shelby in ANY catagory but ugliness. Of course...that's just opinion. :mrgreen:

the zl1 and gt500 both run the same tires except for size. If i remember right the gt500 is 285 and the zl1 is 315? The zl1 was already having major issues at the track on stock tires and i dont even think ive seen anyone post a actual completely stock 1/4 time besides hennesy and it was like 12.5. I think both cars are going to struggle alot without a tire upgrade... thats just too much power to put down on crappy tires. You are right... they can battle it out all they want because its only getting better for the rest of us. I think the limiting factor for chevy is the fact that they have the corvette... they are kind of limited to what they can put on the camaro and how much hp they can run because if they pass up the vette in performance then they wont be selling many of those.

I think it would be badass if ford brought out the GT with the 6.2 and twins or a big twin screw. To me it would need to be 800+hp stock just to keep that buffer between thier "super car" and the affordable mustang. Chevy is going to have to bump up the power on the z06 and zr1 before they go any higher with the zl1.

corvette HP ratings have nothing to do with the ratings of the ZL1. The ZL1 already has 75 more hp than the z06 and the z06 will torch its @ss in every performance category imaginable. The Z06 with the Carbon package is faster than the ZR1 (which has 135 more HP) on a road course. And trust me when I say that does not sit well with ZR1 owners. Its about chassis balance, chassis weight, brakes, shocks and the ability to put it to the ground in a symphony of events happening all at the same time. The camaro will always be a musclecar never on the same platform of a sportscar/supercar that competes on the worlds stage of supercars.

I honestly think for me, I'd have to drive both of them. I've always been a GM guy and never a big Ford guy. Both cars have great numbers and specs and ya da ya da...but numbers don't mean too much when they are that high. Just like Jeff said, the Z06 will out perform both cars. I am very impressed with Ford lately. The new mustangs are sick, but they are a dime a dozen. Not going to be the case with the ZL1.

not going to be the case with the gt500 either... It makes no sense to say that mustangs are a dime a dozen because so are camaros. Theres probably just as many v6/v8 camaros as v8/v6 mustangs on the road now adays. I think the zl1 and gt500 will be pretty rare sights for a while, but they will be around sooner or later.
