sounds like a pretty good deal... i know when i worked for toyota ~10 years ago i made $17/hour and was lucky to break 40 working 60-70/week and top pay in the shop was only like $24/hour

yea well me and my service manager belive that you gotta pay if you want a good employee
thats the only way to get and keep good people... i got tired real quick chasing that paycheck when other guys in the shop were getting fed timing belts and 60k's (14-16 hour job that takes 1.5-2 hours to complete) and i got electrical gremlins, leaking shit, etc... that dealership is the reason i left the industry... good luck though, it sounds like you have a good thing going over there :bigthumb:

I wish we had some a-b techs lol. I've never been at a dealer that paid more than say 24 an hour. Seems like the more hours the shop turns, the less the highest tech makes. 6 years ago, at gene reed Toyota, I did about 60-80 a week and made like 17 an hour.

Most import brand dealers don't pay the techs as much per flat rate hour as the big three brand dealers do. The big 3 have to offer a higher pay rate just to keep techs due to the unfair warranty time rates. In contrast, import warranty labor time rates are pretty fair for the most part.
The import dealers don't have near the warranty work as the big 3 do. Most of the import dealer work is 30/60/90k services and timing belts for the most part. During the spring and summer, import dealer techs will make more money than a big 3 dealer tech, despite the lower pay per flat rate hour. The only downside to the import dealers is when the slow part of the year hits, turned hours drop way down.
After working 5 years at 5 Ford dealers, I took the wheels off my toolbox so that I wouldn't be tempted to wheel it back into another dealer service department! :hysterical: If I ever have to resort to going back to one, it will be a high end European one.
