With recent events Im seriously thinking of buying a couple of conceal guns for us. Show me yours and your wifes if you dont mind to give me some ideas.
I have a keltec p3at and a smith ans wesson mp 9 shield. The keltec is small easily concealed pocket gun. It fits in her purse nicely and when I carry it I can wear just a tshirt with my iwb holster you can't see it.

I picked this one up as my first gun and i still love it. Feels good in the hand and doesnt kick as bad as i expected. Its probably on the medium/big size to be concealing though, and probably better for a male rather than a female.

g36 for me, wife has a g36 and a charter arms pink lady .38 spl +p it all depends on what she has on.
Im getting my wife a holster for her purse. All it does is cover the trigger and the it has some shoe string on it to tie it the inside of her purse. She can grab the gun and.drop the bag for it to release. Advanced Holster in Fayetville nc makes it.

LCR OR LCP. Anything bigger and you probably would not want to carry it. The MP 9MM Shield looks tempting as well.

Best bet is to go rent some different guns from ATP and shoot them. The worst thing you can do is by something that your wife isn't comfortable shooting.

esp if the wife wants to conceal at work, and it's illegal at work.

I will be picking up a Glock 27 and the wife will more than likely be picking up a .38 hammerless revolver, not 100% on the brand yet but she's been going to the range to practice to see what she's comfortable with. Your wife should go to ladies night at ATP, let me know if she wants to go and maybe my wife can go with her, she enjoyed it her first time.

x2 on this. My wife has been wanting to get her CCW but didn't know how to "break the ice" getting into shooting, so she went to ladies night at ATP with several coworkers. She absolutely loved it and wants to go back for some more range time with different guns, which is cool with me. I would love it if my wife carried since she's often out with the kids by herself and she's not a large women (she's 4'11" & 90 lbs) so having a weapon she knew how to handle would make me feel better!
Unfortunately with her being a girly girl she wants a pink one lol.
My wife is the same way! I currently have the gun in the attachment on lay-a-way (yea I'm that big of a jew) and should have it within the next month or so, which will be right in time for her CCW class.

The Kimber is nice but the LCP is a more convenient conceal carry. Making the decision to conceal carry is easy. Finding a weapon that is comfortable for you is the hard part. If itÔÇÖs not comfortable you will tend to lax with carrying. Possibly on a day that you will need it. Any caliber weapon will run off a crack head so donÔÇÖt get too hung up on that variable.
IÔÇÖm not promoting any brand. I personally carry the Ruger LCP .380. It fits in my pocket, front or back, with no holster. ItÔÇÖs light and convenient for me. When I carry my Kimber (Ultra Crimson Carry II) I have to use a holster. Not as convenient as my pocket.
Before you buy, research how you are planning to carry and everything else will be eaiser.
One last thing and this is important. Not every situation is ÔÇ£Life ThreateningÔÇØ. That is what a judge and jury will be trying to determine if you do use deadly force and kill someone, not to mention the personal trauma you WILL experience for taking someoneÔÇÖs life. A good addition to a personal weapon is either a taser or pepper spray. Not the Wal-Mart variety but a serious device. I personally donÔÇÖt care for the taser. It still puts you in close vicinity of the criminal. Pepper spray is a good alternative as well as wasp and hornet spray. Both have good reach out and touch range, is non lethal but will stop almost any breathing human. You can carry them almost anywhere with no problem.
There is so much more to be said on this topic but it would be a novel. Sorry for the long post. Good luck.

I agree on doing the rental route at ATP. Women's hand shapes and finger strengths are definitely different from us guys. Semi autos are flatter and a little more discreet to carry, but make sure you pick one that is reliable even shooting one handed or weak handed in your wife's hand. Semi autos need a good anchorage in the hand to ensure reliable cycling.
While the lightweight hammerless revolvers are a simple, reliable point and shoot device, most of them have 10lb+ double action trigger pulls on them, which some women with limited hand strength find hard to shoot proficiently. The beauty feature of these is that you can fire one from inside your pocket or purse and they go bang everytime, unlike semi autos in these situations.
The easiest trigger pull weight out there among the little revolvers is the Ruger LCR. Mine comes in around 7-8 lbs of pull. The LCR has a gel insert in the backstrap of the grip that works wonders for taking the bite out of the recoil in these ultra lightweight revolvers. I have an LCR in .357mag, and with the gel backstrap, full house .357magnum recoil feels like .38+p out of a comparable S&W airweight revolver that has its metal frame exposed to your palm.
Another non-firearm alternative is the Kiimber Pepper Blaster: http://www.kimberamerica.com/pepperblaster . It's only 2 shots of high velocity pepper gel, but the little thing is no bigger than a pager and easily carried in the pocket. It even has some sights on it to help you with an accurate aim. Check out some of the videos for it. It reportedly releases a 90mph stream that's pretty hard for a bad guy to avoid. For around $36 each at ATP, its hard not to have a couple around.

For the wife pink guns make just as much noise and put the same holes in stuff. Get her a pink one if she wants it. I suggest a Sig, Kimber or Colt anything. I carry a full size 1911 so concealment can be a little tricky with a full size gun.

When she went to shoot for her CHL they tried to get her to shoot a bigger gun, saying hers was harder to shoot being so small. She shot almost perfect score. You just have to find a gun your wife likes and is comfortable with.

Me H&K USP .45 or S&W 629 .44 mag and wife Kahr CW 9mm 7+1 or Beretta Mod. 21 7+1 .22 LR once she gets CWP.She is capable of shooting up to my .45 but hasn't shot the .44mag as of yet.I believe a shot gun with LE low penetration rounds is best for in home protection though on another subject.

I shot a Springfield 1911 today that was pretty bad ass. I also shot a Desert Eagle 1911 that was ok. Also a European American Arms witness p that I didnt care for.
Shes looking at a 38 or 380 revolver and shes going to ladies night tomorrow to get a little bit more familiar with shooting without a bunch of guys crowding her.
So hopefully Ill come home with two guns this weekend and spend a couple of weeks getting her comfortable. Then its time for the CWP together.

I would research different triggers, etc. Personally, I would not recommend a single action only (1911) style gun to an inexperienced shooter. I would get something that is point and pull trigger and you can't screw it up. (Glock, MP, XD, etc). Get a 1911 style gun for you and her to shoot for fun, but not conceal.
This is my opinion only, I know some will disagree with me.
Don't let the ATP guys talk her into anything either. They assume that every chick that walks through the door wants/should shoot a .22. My wife hates shooting the .22. I love it when the owner starts flirting with my wife and starts talking about 22's and my wife interrupts him and says she prefers a .40.

I really do like the looks of the XD's and need to test out a few more different guns before I make up my mind. I really love the Kimber ultra covert 2 also. How the grip feels in my hand is top priority for me right now and so far from what Ive shot the 1911's have been more comfortable but Im not done testing guns out yet.
My wife really likes our Bersa Thunder .380 Easy smooth trigger, very little recoil and not to big.

Glock 36, 6+1 45 caliber. don't concentrate on the gun as much as the holster, do you wear jeans? if so, go with an ankle holster, really convinent when driving or when crouching down to avoid a crazy gunman. btw, if you get a cwp, keep it current or you will have to redo the class.

Just puttin in my 2 cents I just got my CWP and I qualified with my FNP 9. I'm a left handed shooter and my girlfriend the right handed shooters so we need our guns very ambidextrous. I also use the FNX 45. 16 round capacity with a 45 you just can't argue with that. the gun is double /single action hand has a decocker that is very easy to reach. My girlfriend was a first time to shooter and now she loves both of them. fN is an up and coming manufacture and now with the 5.7 there just a great company. I've put 1000 the rounds for both of them i love both of the guns without question would trust my life with either one. plus they're not that everyday glocks that you see everybody and their mother carrying.
gearmesh, inc.
09-07-2012, 10:07 PM
I shot a few FNs and mostly liked them for being one of a couple polymer framed guns with a hammer. Keeping the firing control pieces down in the frame makes for a better trigger feel overall.
However, since I shoot with a thumb over thumb grip style, I occasionally found myself inadvertently decocking the FN due to the decoker and thumb safety functions being on the same lever. Since I shoot 1911s and CZs most of the time, my strong hand thumb is always resting on top of the thumb safety lever while shooting. This helps keep the gun planted lower in the hand to minimize muzzle flip from recoil. Plus, once one's muscle memory kicks in with this style grip, the thumb safety will always get disengaged on the draw, even under stress.
