From what I have read, Epoxy-coat looks pretty good for the money. Just don't use the shit at lowes or home depot

I've done a few, but with industrial coatings that aren't really available to the average person. Are you planning on using any type of aggregate to make it non-slip or just want a smooth finish? Is it raw concrete now?

I will see if I can find out if you can buy the products we use. The local home improvement stores don't sell anything that I would use

I used H&R epoxy. As with all paint/coatings, prep is the key. I used muriatic acid before rolling it. I recommend using anti-grip.

If you can completely clean the concrete and give it at least a light profile it will help tons with the adhesion of the coating. I used a 6000 psi pressure washer (turned down a little bit, around 4000 at tip) with a spin head to clean the last one I did, but it was old concrete and had a coating that we removed.

I wish I still had pics of the ones I've done, they all came out great.

Its not even poured yet. The garage is bein built this week.. I was just looking for some input so i know what to go look at.. I been looking at sherwin williams armour seal as1000.. Its a industrial coating but its expensive..Was kinda looking to see if any of you guys have used some stuff from home depot or lowes, but the more i read on it,it seems its prob not gonna work for me.. And i was gonna add the non slip stuff from sherwin williams, they got it in a small can,you can add it to any of the coatings....The contractor says he will have it built in 5 days.. I will post some pics as it progresses this week if yall interested....

I've always heard to let the concrete cure for several weeks/months before rolling epoxy.

Concrete has a 28 day curing process. Do not apply any type of coating to the concrete until after 30 days. Sherwin Williams Armor Seal is good stuff. If you have a chance to do a small area before starting on the large area, do that. that way if anything goes wrong or it doesn't look as you would want there is still time to make changes.

yes, let the concrete cure completely before. Also, with the way Charleston weather changes so fast, you need to do the whole floor at one time. Changes in Humidity can alter the finish.

Dont add sand or grip stuff, makes cleaning up with paper towels impossible.

for 1700 square ft, i dont even know where to start. but prep is the key, pressure wash, let dry, then some kind of bonding agent(acid, citrus),... hopefully a kit will come with all you need.

As with any paints mix all color together for even color coverage, and with your knees anti slip additive is a given.......lol......................

Damn right,,Im getting a double knee replacement real soon. Maybe first of the year..I have to have the anti slip stuff. One slip and its all over for me...lol...When i worked at chevy, the floors there were crazy.. Everytime it rained customers would come running into the service dept trying to get out the rain and would do the slip and slide for about 15 ft or so...It happened so much we would take bets on people when we seen them running accross the parking lot.....Dont need none of that ....

My garage was fresh concrete, and I used the "You Coat it system" you see in Hot Rod and a few other magazines. I had a slightly rough finish, 90 day plus cure time, and scrubbed with acid that came with the kit prior to paint. The first Mickey Thompson slick that parked on it yanked up a patch of the paint the size of where the tire was sitting. The best advise I can give, is I have seen a couple of garages, that was done the way I should have done mine, but wasn't aware it was available, and its perminent. Have your concrete guy add color to the concrete itself in the mix. I seen one recently that had a reddish tint added to it, and the floor was finished like red bricks on a house complete with grooves. Looked awesome, and they have a bunch of colors supposedly..:bigthumb:

I used muriatic acid before rolling it.

YMMV, but i pushed everything over to one side, and used muriatic acid,
then did that side, pushed everything...

left garage doors closed at night.

EVERYTHING that was left in the garage POPPED RUST big time.
even like the little strut levers on my tool box top.

that stuff is killer, all my cheapo steel shelves are rusting bad now.

do not use "Behr concrete stain"
it's basically thick paint...and it gets stained by wheel tracks, and tires pull it up. it's trash.

i have to park on cardboard, esp if the tires are wet (rain or washday) or else even the bicycles pull the paint up.
