So the motor is in and running. Can't get the alternator to excite and charge and the base line tune Arrington Performance put together has some glitches. Codes are still being thrown and since the voltage regulator is in the PCM I am wondering if it got changed some how. Any one know a mopar tuner locally? HHP says they will do it but just checking out options.

The answer I was trying to give slowgreen99 is "My father-inlaw is named Bill, he told me his boss's son fit your description and drove a green mustang". Hopefully this is stated clearly enough Buddy can comprehend it. :-).

The caltracs are in the back seat and already found a shop in Jacksonville that says they will widen and warranty the wheels. Still checking into the reputation of them. But once it's up and going the next big step is going to be the T56 swap. :-)

Ok so the truck is going to HHP for Jeff to do some tuning, however when testing the E-fan and SC coolant pump after the wire tuck to hide it all I noticed any positive pressure at all has the intake gaskets looking saturated in fuel I assume. It wasn't quit moist enough to get on anything to smell it but it did feel very much like fuel.
This thing has been torqued and re torqued. Is there something I'm missing. I mean hell the blower weighs damn near 200 lbs and the bolts are torqued to 9 ft/lbs like they should be. Best I can figure is the tune poring fuel in excess. Even then it would be sitting on the pistons and not filling a entire runner in the head.
Any ideas? Or does it look like ill be paying for more than a tune?

Good thing you got plenty of $$!!

ElecTech
12-11-2012, 07:44 PM
What injectors are you using with that setup?

There is a good chance that it is a PCM calibration issue. Depending on what kind of "base tune" Arrington sent you it could be way off. I have yet to see one of theirs, but I have seen many that have been less than stellar.

Littlelogeyone
12-11-2012, 07:53 PM
It is supposed to be the tune that came with the edelbrock system just reformatted for the 7137 tuner with a couple changes do to the cam and displacement changes. It has 54lb/hr injectors and yet the name of the tune has "80lb" in the file name once it's loaded on the tuner. I have has the time to get into what all parameters they have modified so it could be anything at this point. Just sounds like a time bomb to me right now with fuel seeping out.

If your software covers stroker motors, superchargers, CalTracs and wire tucks, I'd like to know where you got it because we need a copy! Seriously though, they try to be as fair as they can on labor and try to keep you informed of the progress.

I won't be at the shop until later in the evening. I have a "real" job during the day. I did get the injector calibration corrected so they can start and move it without issues. Started and ran well for the short time I had it running.

I can't do any tuning until the alternator is connected and the air intake assembly is connected. I think I have a solution for the alternator so I hope they can get it wired up Monday, but I think the power steering reservoir is going to be a bigger issue.

Littlelogeyone
12-16-2012, 12:26 PM
The PS res is going away. Jeff ordered the return 90 degree right after I dropped the truck off. Even though it isn't making noise the alarm was getting triggered nonstop yesterday. Just unplug that big fuse by the break booster. It needs to be unplugged to tune it any how so it doesn't do anything durring the flash to the PCM. Just email me or text cause the forum isn't showing updates for some reason on my phone. 843-364-9970 LittleLogeyOne@gmail.com http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/17/y7umahym.jpg

I gotta check and see if I took the vacuum line for the driver side PCV that's gettin deleted any way since my last experience on the old motor. Plus I don't want it sucking that hot air out the motor. The breather and larger diameter PCV and line should be more efficient any how plus it's routed through the catch can as well. That intake is just the one that came with it. I'm going to be takin that fuse box and battery out and relocating them later. And I meant to say that the alarm isn't sounding off since the horn is here with me since it was mounted where the PS res is going. It has a billet challenger reservoir in the back seat. But here is what i found from the last motor having that driver side intake line installed to the port the breather is mounted to. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/17/a7ete6y2.jpg

Littlelogeyone

Just the PCM portion that regulates the alternator. Go figure. No wonder in my research before starting this project, everyone said you gotta be one dedicated mechanic with some money to spend to get all of it buttoned up. They were right.

Littlelogeyone
01-11-2013, 03:17 PM
So latest update. Jaime should have the tuning buttoned up over the weekend and the truck will be back home. Just got some of my own cosmetic stuff to put on, some things to hide under the hood and the project will be done. For now anyway :-). Gotta get moved into the new house with my real garage so I can play with it I'm the middle of the night when I get he from "Boeings work release program(work until I am released). I will post up some more pics and video links once I get it home.

So still having charging issues. New alternator maintains a surface charge of 12-12.5v at idle but will not excite unless its field wire is grounded externally and it will only produce 14-14.5 all the time and not vary when extra power is demanded. I'm about to say F it and hide an external voltage regulator and be done with this issue.
Anyone have any suggestions? All systems test good separately but won't function properly when installed.

Littlelogeyone
01-22-2013, 05:23 PM
So she's home and got some new front end pieces. Guess the additional displacement is keepin the boost down at 3psi for now which is fine with me for the break in period. Still needs some cosmetic work under the hood and the last piece of chrome painted. It's got a little ticking, possibly just rockers breaking in or the injector solenoids. Putting some miles on it and seeing if it just needs some time to wear smooth it its rockers and pulling the valve covers to check torque on all the valvetrain before it goes on the dyno when the 14psi pulley gets installed. Other than little things hear and there, it runs like a beast. Only thrown one random misfire code so far and hopefully the dyno will solve the last light on the dash.

All I know is Jaime and Jeff have done nothin but good for me. When it comes to mopar, which I am totally new too, Been Fords and Chevy for years, Lowcountry has hasn't let me down in any way shape or form. Plus I'm not building a full out drag car/truck, this is a daily driver that we have sat and literally shot the shit while bouncing around ideas and suggestions. 60ft times really don't matter to me cus the truck already hauls ass and hasn't even been run up to its full potential since I'm breaking it in nice and easy since I got enough money tied up in it to buy two Chevys. Don't take it personal, if that read like I was giving an asshole response. Didn't intend for that at all cus I totally understand some needed venting. I work at Boeing from 3:30PM to........ Whenever. Regularly 14+ hours since I gotta be in early to prep my team and late to follow up on them. But I agree with the comment about getting back with Jeff and Jaime to make it right. From my experience with them, which is pretty regular, they would have done whatever was within their means to help out and keep a paying customer happy. Anyhow, sorry. I just got off work and started typing and now making myself stop. Later. Sorry for our boys loss in the 60 foots. But thanks to everyone for all the input, good and bad. I need it to pickup on all this expensive ass mopar world. :-)

The little while I had it back home though it shifted smooth as smooth could be, and with the 2800 stall the boost and stall roll on together perfectly. Hopefully it will stay that way. Just need to suck it up now and ship my wheels out so I can put enough tire out back that I can utilize the cal-tracs. Even now they make the truck drive 100% better. Can't wait to se them go to work with some real traction to get this big ass truck out the hole.

I love my slide-a-links and they are pretty much identical to the cal-tracs.

So it's nearing the end. Rob has the fresh built tranny in the truck and doing fine tuning. Then ill be back on the road again.

I bet you can't wait. It's been a long precess on this build....

Ok so the transmission issue seems to be narrowed down to something not telling the trans to up its line pressure. Anyone got a fix other than the ohm resistor pigtails. The PCM/TCM will just relearn new parameters eventually and they will slowly become useless. Really need help on this one.

So here is the latest. Fourth gear throwing codes. Trans pressure says its low. But the random misfire is just occasional. Any trans swaps you guys know about that will work as a full mechanical setup? Cus I'm about to research/part snatch a T56. If anyone has any leads please let me know.

TCI 6X or possibly a 4L80 swap but these may or may not pose an issue with some of the CAN controlled functions. The Hemi cars it will, but I don't know if the trucks have the level of bus integration that the cars do.

What about a built 727 if you wanna stay automatic, will bolt up with minimal effort and with the right mods are capable of holding some decent power

Jaime, if I were to go manual to alleviate my mind of all this, could the bus system for the trans be shut off since the SRT10 runs a T56. I just went to lunch and it feels like a CVT type trans. I might go to robs to out the real tool on it to check if the line pressure is holding what you had it tuned to. I am just letting it cruise from lights and giving it just enough gas to not glaze yet another set if clutches.

Its very possible. Its done in swaps all the time, but in things like the cars they have the mirrors react to the shifter and other stuff happens based on the shifter. What I can't predict is what may not work after the fact (ABS?), but all of the stuff can be disabled, I believe.

Something just isn't right with your truck and unfortunately there is very little control available for those transmissions.

You hear that everyone? We need to know what T56 to bolt up up with the right input and output shafts and then this is happening. Stopped by Robs just to check the PCM and modified settings that have been adjusted are still correct and it drives like a champ. But still am going for the swap.

I know the modern hemi and Chrysler small block bell housings will interchange, past that I'm not entirely sure, you could look on moparts or fabo under modern hemi swaps and I think they have a tech article on it

Thanks for the reference info on the parts.
But not looking for any thing automatic.
I got a 45RFE Rob has built to the teeth that works just fine but my initial intent was the T56. Necessity caused me to stay auto so I had something to drive.

Ok so I am pretty sure that I got everything covered on this swap but a clutch pedal and a Chevy T-56.
PLEASE HELP FIND A T-56 FOR REBUILD OUT OF A FORD OR LS-1 MOTOR CAR.
Sweeping Craig'sList now. Please post any trans for sale if you come accross anything.

And I do have a LS1 to bargain with that still needs a little TLC since the short block was just punched 30 over an the guy that had it let some moisture in the cylinders. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/07/10/nydu6uje.jpg

In no way shape or form am I doing anything auto. If you got to drive an every day driver with a perfectly good trans and hope some computer tells it to drop into limp mode just cus it thinks something is up I think it would hit home a little better. But thanks for the help. I'm going to need it.
Oh and FYI I had to take today cus I couldn't make it out the neighbor hood before driving back home in second so the other gears did not get damaged.
That's what I'm living with everyday. The TCP could melt and if I could get the motor to run, manual is going to do exactly what I tell it to and not drop to neutral while cruising at any random speed it chooses.
I know some of you guys out here with the Chevys gotta have trannys from auto swaps. Please those people start letting me make some offers.
