I know shawn was looking to get some done so this isnt a old topic but who can do this? keeping it stock length just adding ends and getting tubes welded. Is this the way to go or would it be ok getting C clip eliminators? Im buying strange brakes at the same time so thats not an issue.

C clip Eliminators have been known to leak. Getting the end tubes is really the way to go. Although more work. Just my opinion though.

Yea I just need ti find somebody local that can weld up the tubes and add the ends. There's no real price difference between the two. I'll be ordering it all Monday so I've got a little while to find somebody to do it.

I stoped by and asked about a month ago. Never really met him but all I asked was can u do it. Then he starred bitching about welding a rear for a guy and not getting paid and how he did one once and it broke and he had to do it a different way the next time. Then he wanted me to cut the old ends off and I was like Wtf am I paying u for then? If felt confident enough to do all that shit I'd weld it back up. It needs to be in a jig so its straightened so the tubes can be welded and then the ends are on straight. He didn't seem up to the task imo but told me he could do it. Idk

Gerald did mine and did not use a jig. He is just good like that,. I don't know if he has the time now with having a real job and all. But, you could hit him up. Also, I think Chet could also do this.

When deciding how much to cut from your existing tubes, measure the length of the 9" ends and cut not quite that much off. This will leave just a little bit to be removed via a grinder or file while you use a combination square to ensure a square end. When you place your new 9" end on, it will automatically be squared up just by butting it up to your newly cut tube. Then you only have to worry about being approx within 1/32" of center or better after that. I use a common spring loaded storm door bumper chain run through the tube and 9" end to hold the end against the tube with some tension while establishing center before tack welding in 3 places. Once tacked and the fit re-verified, three weld passes will be enough. Only cut one tube at a time in order to use the opposite existing end to establish a clocking position for your 4 bolt flange.

Nrc said they would do it all for 150 so I'm just going to get them to do it.

Who is Nrc? You had me laughing when you said Gene told you a story.....man he will ramble on and on and on and on.......overall he's a good guy, though.

Gerald did a couple for me also. He made it look easy. My "C" clips leaked like hell, I replaced "O" rings, siliconed, and finally said screw it, and had Gerald weld on 9" end tubes, and no leaks. An 8.8 and 9" axle are near on the same, the old difference is an 8.8 axle has a slight taper at the carrier, and a 9" doesn't taper..
