Anyone have any experience with these? We are considering picking up a 1974 model with 99k original models. It has been in a container for the last 23 years and is pretty straight... just needs a good cleaning. Comes with new tires, brakes, headlights and some other odds and ends.

What would you value this car at?

I'm jelly.

I've never owned one, but studied them for several years when I owned bimmers. They are supposed the most fun bimmer to drive/race and are easy/cheap to maintain..

Auto hurts the value in my mind.

i would do a quick check of common parts prices

i have only flipped a few BMW's, because the parts cost so much, no one ever replaces anything, and they just drive them until they are trashed out, and then it's a major repair

(think it was shifter on a 6 series...paid $600 for car, parts were ~$300 fix shifter)

looking at this car: you are in for carpet, seats, column, dash...

RoadconeTuning
02-12-2013, 02:06 PM
if it was a Tii it'd be worth st00pid money... otherwise i think they are under 5k.

Matts94Z28
02-12-2013, 02:09 PM
I can save the carpet, column is included and the dash is fine. The seat bottom can be had on ebay for $150 or gradys could fix it. Some never dull and a good paint correction will go a long way. Its just covered in dust from 1991.

I need to find out what its worth cleaned up. I see 6-10k on ebay.

R3vlimited.com, grassrootsmotorsports.com, guten parts are a few good sources of knowledge on them that may help ya out. Great cars!

Whats the story?

Matts94Z28
02-12-2013, 07:24 PM
Not really sure. The current owner pulled it out of the container it was stored in. Not sure what he has in it, but he wanted 3700 obo originally. I am sure he would end up taking 2800-3000 if I show up with 100's and a trailer.

Lisa has wanted one of these cars for a while and this one is in the price range we want. However, I want to be sure we can make some money off of it if its cleaned up and running. You know how I am.

Not sure if she will want to keep it or not at this point.

It is a base model...

dkbmxer002
02-12-2013, 08:18 PM
Honestly if its rust free and straight I think that will matter more than it being an auto or base model.. These cars are old, people desire them... They will only become harder to find as time goes on. I think with a little work you could easily sell it for more.

Look on r3vlimited.com and bimmerforums.com and see what they go for typically.

The base model comment was a joke towards Carl and his worthless TT Vette.

I think the car would be worth $5k cleaned up and operational. Parts are CHEAP on the forums as well. From what I can see, the downfall is the auto and the fact that its not a round tail light car (pre 74). However, they are still very desirable. Shawn can tell us about desirable...

Oh hahahhahah.

Bmaparts.com may have 2002 parts but I'm unsure, they offer a discount with "spece30" discount code. Realoem.com is a great site to find prices and part numbers for literally everything on a BMW.

I wouldn't give him more than 1.5-2K for it and that's generous.

It is a:
- a square tail
- auto
- not running
- not in good shape (interior wise)

No pass go and nothing near 3K.
Offer him $1,500 and wait a couple of weeks.

Any pics of the engine bay or trunk.

If you did buy it, you could do the 320i 5-speed swap.

We started to discuss this a bit today and he tried to come at me strong with 5k after some "research". Of course I told him no way and that I was not interested anymore. Then it was 4500, then 3500, then make an offer. I told him I would bring some cash with me Saturday and we would work it out. I guess I need to go waaaaay low on the initial offer.

I do not have anymore pictures at the moment. However, I asked him about the shock towers, floor pans and trunk pan. He claims there is literally zero rust. He did say the trunk had the factory floor pieces and jack.

I did find out that it was his uncles car which was bought new. In 1991 the ignition cylinder crapped out and it sat in the garage until 1999. It was then put in the container on a farm and has sat there since. It turns out his uncle had been cheating and left the car with his aunt, who when gave it to him as a graduation gift. The plan was to put a SBF in it and ride. He is now being stationed in WA and will have no time to mess with it.

Not sure on the plans yet, but is a VERY solid car for the price. I'd like to get ride of the diving board bumpers and do the lower air dam on the front and maybe a 70 or so rear bumper. I think a nice set of BBS RS wheels in 15x9 would make the car stand out a good bit. Lisa is asking for a wooden steering wheel as well.

She did ask me (all on her own) how hard it would be to put a new BMW power plant in the car though. I guess that would be the route if a swap is in the future. I'd just like to make it look nice and be reliable for now.
