So, I posted the Z06 for sale on Ebay and the autocheck shows the car has been in an accident. Previous owner didn't disclose that info and the carfax didn't show it either. Emailed the previous owner, so we will see what he says.

I can tell you a lot of people look for accident reports especially when spending that kind of cash on a car. This really sucks to hear and maybe its a error or something. Obviously the damage was either minor or repaired right for you to not notice it.

I had 7-8k worth of work done to a truck when I t boned someone, it went through an insurance company and an authorized dealer and it never got reported to carfax... (Granted this was in 04.

oh yea, i know. people look at cars alot differently than i do. i was selling a buick regal gs with a bad transmission one time and some woman calls me up and wants me to have a garage look at it before she buys it. said "do you think it will make it to indiana without leaving me stranded?" i was like how lucky do you feel?

I would never trust ONLY carfax. Always use both carfax and autocheck. Sort of like Credit Reports... Equifax might have something that Transunion doesn't.

That sucks to hear, and because it knowingly didn't show up on carfax is probably why he did not disclose it to you, rolling the dice that you would never find out. Considering that, I'll be suprised if he does return your request for more information.

I've never seen an autocheck report, does it say who paid the claim? Maybe you can get the insurance company that paid the claim to fix the car(or the body shop) to provide you pictures that are in their historical database so you can get a better idea of what was damaged/fixed. It may be next to nothing.

I think the fear for any potential buyer is the unknown of what the damage might have been vs. seeing that it was actually little-to-nothing. The car is too impeccable to have been involved in anything major.

I remember reading about someone who had a BIG ERROR on the mileage that was listed for their vehicle on carfax. The burden of proof was on him to prove that carfax was wrong and it cost him TIME and MONEY to get it corrected over months of disputes.

My mileage was all sorts of fucked up from when I worked at Toyota and the service writers would jokingly put 1,000,000 miles or sometimes 0 since I was working on my personal car. I had no idea the service tickets got reported to carfax.

I looked into that. The Carfax guarantee only applies to branded titles.

Also, the previous owner should respond. If not, my inlaws see him at car shows in NC pretty often and I can put him on blast on HorsepowerJunkies if he decides not to.

i didnt see a damn thing that would have suggested that thing was ever in a wreck, i'm normally able to pick out some haggard body gaps or something but i'd be hard pressed to believe it was more than a parking lot scuff... my GXP had a report of a minor impact on the rear bumper but it looks perfect other than a broken bumper clip... Carfax is for people who are oblivious generally, if it was repaired correctly it could actually be BETTER than factory.

Previous owner just responded back. Said a dually passed him and hit a bottle and glass shards hit the bumper and hood. Claim was filed under comp, but he touched the spots up. Supposedly insurance told him it wouldn't show up as an accident.
