Guys, what type of helmet is required at local tracks??

Depends if you even need a helmet.

Are you running slicks?
Are you running quicker than a 7.5?
(IIRC 7.5 is the cut off)

But if you did need a helmet the guys a Dorchester wouldnt care if you wore a football helmet.

For the 1/8th mile anything 6.40 or faster has to have a full face helmet .

I'm glad I got a full face helmet. When ever I get my fuel system done, and hook up my bottle, I hope to be at least that deep into the 6's. :mrgreen:

I use to have an open face helmet and I sold it for a closed face. I'm sure the open face would be okay to protect your noggin in the event of a crash, but if a fire broke out you'd look like Freddy Kreuger by the time you got out. Therefore, closed face it is for me.

If you frequent a track that loosely or strictly enforces the rules, you can't go wrong with any helmet that's rated SA2005 or SFI 31.1/2005. Ensure to check these things when purchasing a helmet. Don't get stuck with a M2005 helmet when an SA2005 is required.

Bill, I got a few hockey helmets you can borrow...pick a size and color :)

Most of the road racing events I want to attend this year require a "SA" rated helmet since they are fire resistant and can handle multiple impacts where as something like a motorcycle helmet does neither.
