pretty simple actually

PSA stripped lower - $132 after tax
PSA/Magpul MOE ACS-L Lower build kit - $221 after tax/shipping

$353 invested...now to save up a lil more and buy a PSA upper for $320 in store...then BCG and charging handle...DIY FTW

Very nice. I'm doing something similar with mine.

Stripped PSA lower - $80
Stag Arms complete upper - $500

All I need now is the PSA lower build kit for $130 and I'll be done. Just waiting for it to get back in stock! $710 all in is pretty good I think.

ya...im thinking im just gonna get a complete upper with 16in 1:7 chromelined barrel...maybe later a lowprofile gas block and free float rail...once i start reloading im gonna build either a .308 or sbr ar15 in 6.8

I have $60 in my psa stripped lower from a friend and got their basic lpk for $40 on black friday. I just need to put it together. I still need a stock and upper as well. What upper does psa have for $320?

94FormulaBird
02-18-2013, 03:24 PM
16" chromeline barrel 1:7 twist...no bolt carrier group or charging handle...my buddy picked up two of them two weeks ago for him and his dad...the same ones they had listed online for $390

I'm not savvy on the ar's, so what is a "parts" list that you need to build one? I find it pretty stupid that you can build one third of the price and all you have to do is put it together.

ForceFed4g63
02-23-2013, 11:42 AM
The lower receiver is the only part you need to buy through a dealer. Everything else you can get shipped directly to you. It's a pretty short list:

Lower receiver, complete upper, trigger kit, and stock and buffer tube. You'll want someone to assemble the lower for you though.

Matts94Z28
02-23-2013, 11:47 AM
Man up and assemble the lower yourself.

94FormulaBird
02-24-2013, 02:21 AM
This was my first build...taped up the receiver so it didnt get scratched...then used tape wrapped vice grips to slowly drive the rolls pins into place...a child could assemble an ar15 lower...takes patience...and a little reading of thread to figure out what to watch for and what to do...

98Camarod
02-24-2013, 08:37 AM
So you can put an entire ar15 together for less than 1k, yet they cost over 2k for a comparable one?

If that's the case, why aren't people buying the stuff and selling them complete for 1500 and make some money?

Parts availability?

I love that 300 blackout cartridge. One day I may have one.

I do have about 120 ea .30cal 208gr Hornady A-max bullets up for grabs if you are looking to load some sub-sonic rounds for your future 300 blackout. I tried various loadings in my .308 bolt action with the 208s, but it doesn't love these near as much as it does the 178gr A-max. I had only picked up these 208gr ones to try out at the time because no one had 178gr in stock at the time I needed some bullets.

I've just always wondered WHY?

I like the look but can't find the reasoning to justify it.

Really look into the 300 Blackout round and you'll find all your answers there.

Cliff Notes: The 300 round doesn't gain anything at all over a barrel longer than *roughly* 10".

One more note: I'm setting up my rifle for the 300 blackout round, 8.5" barrel with a suppressor, and its just as quiet as a suppressed MP5 with a ton more potent round in it instead of the 9mm.

Once again, if you read up a little on the potential(s) of the 300 round, you'll start to see exactly why its becoming the "new thing"...

PapaBear

I'm very familiar with the round.

I'm speaking of the SBR fad. For a suppressor host, sure, but even then, other than looks and "cool" factor, it doesn't make sense to me to spend the $.

Why would you need a suppressor other than to say, "I have a suppressor?"

That's where I'm going with this whole thing.

To spend $200 on a stamp for a SBR, what's really the point? The only thing I can see is to host a suppressor without making it a 20"+ rifle.

Which brings us to the suppressor debate.....why own one? Sure it's "fun" and "cool" and all, but is it really worth the $600+ for the suppressor and another $200 for the stamp?

In my opinion, I cannot see the reasoning. I'll spend that extra $ on more guns and ammo.

The fact that I already have irreversible hearing loss, and have had my hearing monitored since 1985, plus my love for shooting it all makes sense for me to pursue it. Anyone who knows me will tell you I can't hear $hit already...

And for the cool factor, absolutely not. Once again, anyone who knows me will tell you I do my own thing, and simply don't care what others think, so no, I'm not doing it for any "cool factor".

My 8.5" barrel with an SDN-6 will bring me to a 14.5" total barrel length. That's why I want to pursue it.

Anyhow, you can buy yourself more guns and what not, last time I was at the range I was only capable of firing at max two at a time as I only have two hands, just like you. I already have enough guns anyways.

Back on topic, anyone gone this route on here?

Sorry you lost your hearing, a suppressor will certainly help. My hearing is monitored every 6 months as well, and for that reason I have been using good quality in-ear and good over the ear muffs at the same time with great success for the past 4 years.

Last time I went to the range I took 14 guns, and enjoyed shooting every one of them. It's not about how many hands i have, it's how much I enjoy them. Can one ever have "enough" guns? What is enough really?

And, no, I don't think you'll find anyone on this forum with an SBR, probably not even someone with a suppressor (legal, anyway).

I have the paperwork to fill out to build a SBR... just havent had the gumption or funds to pursue it yet. Last I heard it was a 15 month wait for approval.

Not a huge fan of SBRs for rifles but for a PDW I absolutely love this.

Picked up, legally, from a member from a firearm forum after moving to Utah. Works great for throwing in a bag and going on a hike.

Stop making sense dammit!

Because I can't shoot my rifle as effectively as not wearing ear muffs and only wearing ear plugs. Believe me, I have spent oodles of money on just items to help me minimize my hearing loss in regards to shooting. I have tried, I have about 5 styles of ear muffs, custom ear plugs etc etc.. I simply don't shoot as well as when I have just simple foam ear plugs. And simple foam ear plugs aren't as effective as the other options I have.

Either way, I didn't come here to try and "justify" the likes of myself, and am not doing this for any sort of "fad" as I don't but hang out with maybe one or two others on this board. Honestly, I could care less what anyone on here that has responded thinks because I'm 99% sure I wont be shooting with you anyways. (Only because I don't know you, no other reasons implied.) Not trying to come off as a dick or anything, its just the preconceived notions you may think I am doing this aren't the reasons why I want to go this route. I mainly only shoot with two or three other people..

Anyhow, by Papabear, Birdman and ForcedFed4g63, I have a 28" old TV that's sitting in my dining room, still works and all. Maybe by your guys logic you would be willing to trade me your bigger TV's because I can't "justify" having a 50"+ TV when you can see everything you need to on my 28" tube TV.

So when can we meet and trade TV's? :bigthumb:

Please get back on topic and stop it with the "justification" part, its a mute point. We all have fast cars in our garages that aren't "justified" when a Civic will get us to where we want to go just fine. We do what we want to because WE want to, and this is no different than making our cars fast when they don't have to be. *I* want to do this, so stop knocking me because *I* want to do something even though it may not be your cup of tea, so what.

Anyhow, I filled out all my paperwork, the ATF Form 1. I am going to attempt to go and see Harvey Becker (Goose Creek Chief of Police) and see if he would be willing to sign off on my form. If not, my next option is going to be the Berkeley County Sheriff's office. God forbid if that doesn't work, according to Form 1, I can have Scarlet Wilson (Solicitor) sign off on mine, and I doubt that's going to work.

Bradleyrj - whats your plan for the signoff, or have you even got that far yet?

They're still there.

As for the other guy, you can do whatever the hell you want, I just have a hard time wrapping my head around the reasoning. I have hearing issues too but I just wear the foam plugs and they work for me just fine.

Wtf? Your analogy made no sense at all.

All I/we were saying is that it makes sense to spend much less money and do the more common thing, which is use ear protection instead of wasting money on silencers or going through the whole long process of attaining one legally. And it doesn't make sense to me that you can't shoot as well with earpro, but whatever.

Do what you want, no one is judging you or trying to give you a hard time.

That's the link I used...the vice grip trick was nice...apparently the front pivot pin detent is a pita...I got it no problem...good luck and post a pic when ur done

Assembled another today, and learned a great trick. He bought some Battle Arms enhanced takedown and pivot pins, and the kit came with a very small round magnet. Placed the magnet 180* out of the detent side of the pin, and the magnet will hold the detent onto the pin. Use the pin to push the detent in and push the pin in.

Literally installed the front spring/detent/pin in about 20 seconds......with no tools and no cussing.

Middle is a PSA Freedom upper with psa lower and parts
Right is built for me:
PSA upper, lower, 16in light profile 1/7 twist barrel, lantac dragon brake, PSA full auto bcg, ambi charging handle, parallax tactical 15in free float rail, magpul mbus pros, magpul moe grip, magpul acs-l stock,
