Went to work today to find out that there was a layoff... Luckily I still have my position in my lab, but we are short handed as it is.

I was told I was lucky to still have a job, but I would be hit with a 10% salary deduction(on top of the 3% tax hike we took). Looks like I will be working harder for less money.

Isn't that motivational.

But Obama said taxes won't go up. Guess you make some big money.

Maybe its just your company?? Work has picked up for me. A 10% pay cut is crazy

That sucks Matt. I know it's not any consolation but at least you didn't get laid off.

supposa be 20% cut for Feds when the furlough hits.

Bush's deficit was 2% per year (so 8% over 4 years)
Obama's deficit is 11% per year (so 50% over his term)

that makes sense as to why our country is going broke, 11% over every year.

glad you got to stay at work.

Sucks to get a pay cut, but like you said you do still have a job. I was laid off in January due to my plant being shut down completely and have been on the job hunt ever since. For me I was ready to do something different so i wasnt upset, and they treated us well upon departure.

I was accepted to train for Boeing last month, so I took it. Just wating on readysc to send me my assessment and get the ball rolling. It could be July or so before I start.

I can't get a 10% pay cut. That would put my pay rate below minimum wage. Then they wouldn't be able to fire me either because slaves must be sold.

Just do yourself a favor and not look up how Obamacare will affect you. People are finding out that their current healthcare does not qualify as approved healthcare under the new guideline of Obamacare. (Affordable Healthcare act for the liberals)

But it's all getting better....right!

I wonder everyday as a government contractor if I'm going to come in and get the cut. It sucks. Many already have.

Good luck on the Boeing thing.

Well as of today it looks like they are phasing out my 3rd shift. That is another 8% on top of the 10% reduction and the 3% tax increase. 21% total... I just can't do it.

There is also rumor that it will be cheaper to pay the health care penalty than to insure us.

Maybe I need to take a jump and start washing cars full time. I am fairly sure I could make more than I make now.

Well, I just found out that the two week notice in reverse has occured to me. In 2 weeks I'm being fired, but they want me to finish the current work I am doing first. Normally noone would ever be asked to continue working, but I'm doing a job for my brother-in-law and they know I will still show up and do a good job.

The head of the industrial division of the company I've been working for has called our main office and told a blatant lie about me. The guy has hated me for 2 years and once he got this promotion I knew it was only a matter of time. He is pretty much all powerful and can do whatever he wants and he has black-listed me which means no other project manager can hire me to do any jobs......so there goes almost 3 years for nothing. Oh well, I wanted to make a change anyway. Something will come up for all us guys on the job hunt....

Sorry to hear you are totally being shit on. I can relate.

Oftentimes it takes a little unexpected push out of a current job or career situation in order to move on to something better. The transition can be rough at times, but if you have the desire to succeed, good things usually follow.

seen this firsthand. you can't make waves with one of the company's "prodigies". even if he is a dumbass, you just have to do whatever he wants and be his buddy. otherwise, you are against him, and in turn the company's best interests. i've seen a very smart person with good morals/heart let go for going after what he thought was right. the not as smart person over him blacklisted him for not being a "team player". oh yea, don't go to HR when you are upset with the company and how you are being treated. they arent there for you, they are there to protect the company.
they will always take the side of the higher up on the foodchain guy. (not sure if thats what happened to you, just reminded me of a situation where i work.)

He took over as the project manager on a job I was the foreman on up in Michigan in June 2011. He proceeded to give my job to some friend of his. Then after sending me home, called me Saturday of Labor day weekend and told me I had to be in St. Paul, Minnesota by Monday (they still owed me 2 weeks pay and $275 in fuel reimbursement) and then would be going to Nevade for one to 1.5 years.......gave me basically 1 day notice of this. I told him he was fucking crazy and to go do that shit himself.

We've had a mutual hatred ever since then. I'm not that mad, a little....yeah. I'm not stupid and knew this day was coming. I hate this shit I do anyway, so I've been networking and trying to find something else. I think I may already have another job, just waiting to hear back from the hiring people....

Find a better job before you quit. Don't leave an employment gap. It is easier to get a job when you have a job.

Seriously think about doing your own thing. When your job gets stupid like yours is and is never going to get better, that is the sign you have been waiting for to take the plunge. You need to work hard for YOU not some other bozo.

After 20 years of working for the man, I opened my own company in January. It is by far the best thing I have ever done to determine the direction of my life.

Good luck to you. -Abone.
