View Full Version : I'm not getting any signal from the LC-1 with my SCT XCal2

I have an LC-1/XD-16 combo and I decided to go ahead and hook-up my 9-Pin Mini-Din Cable so I can datalog A/F though SCT's LiveLink software. I connected the correct wires of the cable to the correct analog wires of the LC-1 in accordance with these instructions...

http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/Xcal2_tutorial.php

I also found a good ground on the chasis and ran all the appropriate ground to that location. I plug the cable into the XCal2 and try to datalog analog 2 and I can't get anything. Right now all I'm trying to do is figure out what my ground-offset is and I can't even get it to log voltage.

Also, when I connect to the LC-1 through LM Programmer, I set both the 0 and the 5 volt cells to 2.5v and check the use Air-Fuel box then hit program. I closed it out and then re-open it and the voltages are still set to 2.5 like I commanded but the Lambda box is now checked. I've tried several different times to check the use A/F box and program it and it won't save it that way. Every time I open LM Programmer, it's set itself back to Lambda. Why is it doing this and is there anything else I can check to try and get the my XCal2 to read the analog signal from the LC-1???

Wish I could help, but I have a WBC, ......and I haven't tried to hook it to the Xcal yet.

Dont go by the color pinouts. My cable didnt match up to what they said. I actually had to use a multimeter to determine which color wires go to the 3 pins mentioned.

This is how my ended up being connected rather than what the directions said.

Wire.............................................. ........................LC-1 Harness
Top Right pin........Grey................................... .........Brown
Middle Right pin.....Green..................................... .....Yellow
Bottom Right pin....Brown...................................... ....Ground

Refer to above probably your problem.

When I did mine I just hit the "reset to default" button. Try that and see if it works for you
If you need some help and need me to talk you throug it give me a call @ 843 412 4046

Chris, you are the man!!!:bigthumb: I knew it had to be something like that. I'll get it all rewired tomorrow and see if that does it. I now have your number saved in my phone. I would have called you before posting but I didn't know your number.

I'll do that after I figure out if I have a ground offset or not. I need to do that so I can add it into the formula to get the most accurate reading possible. Once that's done I'll set the LC-1 back to default.

This tuning stuff is fun. I dialed in all my STFT's today. They were off, but not by much.

Spence just a tip for when you do get it all working. You have to have the 9 pin cable from the LC-1 and the Serial cable from the XD-16 plugged into the laptop at the same time or the datalog wont work.

Also with my grounds are in the same place as yours my ground offset measured in at 2.499 so I didnt have to mess with Innovates equation at all.

Why do you have the have the serial cable from the XD-16 plugged into the laptop? The 9-Pin cable plugs into the XCal2, not the laptop?

Sorry I meant to say you have to have the USB from the XCAL and the serial cable from the XD-16 plugged into the laptop. It has something to do with grounds or completing a curcuit apparently.

I still don't get why the XD-16 has to be plugged into the laptop. Do you mean the LC-1?

chrisheltra

I guess I thought the serial cable was hooked into the XD-16 but i guess I could be wrong and it is hooked to the LC-1.

At any rate the serial cable and the usb have to be plugged into the laptop at the same time in order for the datalog to work.

Gotcha. I'll make sure to do that once I get the wiring of the cable figured out.

I spoke with a Tech at SCT today and apparently there was a batch of the newer XCal2's (devices with the BLUE backlit screen) that had the internal analog calibration altered slightly. The same wires that Chris mentioned in the other thread are the correct wires for me. But not all 9-Pin Mini-Din cables are the same. Different manufacturers will have different colored insulation on the wires. The wire colors used in the instructions on Innovates website did not work for me.

When I set-up the LC-1 and LiveLink to just log volts (to see if there was a ground offset), it was reading 0.5XXX. I had the LC-1 set-up to only give off 2.5V, so this threw me for a loop initially. Chris came over last night and we tried his XCal2 and everything worked perfectly. But his is an older one with the original calibration. The SCT Tech told me about the 0.5XXX voltage reading before I ever said anything about it. Then after I confirmed what he said, he told me about the issue with the newer devices.

The default analog equation in LiveLink for the Innovate LC-1 is (v*3)+7.35. With the different calibration in my device, I have to multiply the voltage multiplier by 4.43 to get the proper equation. 3 X 4.43 = 13.29. So I need to use (v*13.29)+7.35 instead.

For anyone with an XCal2 that has a BLUE backlit screen and has yet to try and datalog A/F with it, copy this equation and it may save you some headaches later on. But try the original default equation in LiveLink first to see if it works.

It might actually even help Rick since I'm sure he didn't know this. Well, at least he didn't tell me about it when I bought it and all the times I asked him about datalogging. It was like he didn't want me to datalog. I wonder why...

Call sct and file a complaint. Inform others who have had problems with him to do the same. See what SCT says about his "mine mine mine" attitude. Than post it up on NLOC.
