What brand and size tire or you running in the back for traction on the street? Before I put the 20's on a few weeks back, I was running 285/65-16 Perelli Scorpion Zeros. Under normal acceleration, wet traction was great. Rolling into WOT in first gear, I would begin to break traction around 3500 rpms.

Now I am contemplating taking the 20's off because the overall tire diameter is 32". I just bought the combo used a few weeks ago and got a killer deal on them. I just do not like the deteriation of performance with the weight and effective gear ratio.

When it comes to replacement tires, I can go with either a 16" or an 18" tire. Again, what do you find works best for primarily street use?

The stock size tire for our trucks is a 295/45/18. Goodyear F1's were stock. Traction was ok for stock trucks with that tire. Toyo's or Hankooks have less dry traction, but decent wet traction. They should have the longest street life if you like to spin tires. I run Nitto 555's for my regular tires, but have had the 555R drag radials on the rear for a long time. 555's are similar in compound to F1's.

Are you buying/ordering 555 or 555r locally or online?

Crap, they are expensive. Are you running them on all for corners?

Some run the 555's on all 4 corners and some run 555's up front and 555r's out back.

I know everyones driving habits are different, but what kind of life are you getting out of these. I get about 30k or less out of 40k+ tires. I don't know why.

Your doing good. The tires on my dually are the first ones I have ever owned I think where I got more than 10k on.
Your not going to get any kind of mileage out of a performance tire. If your worried about mileage then don't buy any drag radials.

It does matter to a certain degree. I drive 15k per year. That is a lot of coin to replace 4 tires every year.

True but performance and a high mileage tire don't exist together as far as I know. The tires on my car seem like they would last for 100k plus but they suck for performance. Even my tbird can spin them over.

I've been running the stock wheels since I bought the truck. It originally had F1's on it and I could only take so much until I got rid of those shitty things. I'm running Nitto NT555's on all 4 corners now and I couldn't be happier. They're a harder compound than the F1's, so they don't suck up nails like the F1's did. The tread has lasted longer, they look better, and seem to handle better.

I would never go back to F1's.

What is the width of a stock rim on an L?

I am not sure what the hell I am going to do right now. I am going to try to work out a little discount with a tire retailer/shop. The owner of shop's wife is a Supervisor to my wife at their workplace. My wife has mentioned to his wife about it and seems something can be worked out. But who knows, it is not the wifes business. I need to call the shop later today. I will see about get discounts for this and the other site I visit.

You know the old saying, you want to play you have to pay. Thats why I will always have more than one vehcile. I tried to have only one vehcile and have it modded for a long time, it gets expensive. Its cheaper to buy a cheap beater to drive around daily. Or you could do like I did with my old truck, I drove around on the 20's, which wernt cheap but had really good tires, and then just put the stock rims on with drag radials when I went to the track. Having a really modded daily driver is fun but it can get expensive.

9.5"

...and Mickey Thompson Street Radials 305/45/18 if you want the best tire for traction that will fit an 18" wheel. Although they probably won't last 2k miles, but I'm hooked on 'em now.

If you want a tire that lasts forever, Toyo Proxies FTW their astonishing 420 tread wear seams to last forever

Now for the drawback, my wimpy stock block low 12 second truck destroys them from a dig, 30mph roll, 40mph roll and every 3rd gear shift (thatÔÇÖs at about 70mph) there are some videoÔÇÖs on here of some of my rolling burnouts.

Still with 2 years of (literally) beating the crap out of them, I have more tread than NittoÔÇÖs come with when there new..

Wet driving is pretty good and they hold the turnÔÇÖs ok (its not like I put a 5000lb truck with no sway bars on a road course though) they ride nice and smooth with low road noise and they look pretty good from a road and tread perspective.

Point is, you want a tire that can withstand all the beating and smoky burnouts you can throw at them Toyo Proxies FTW. If you want traction IÔÇÖd look another direction.

FYI My tire size is 295/45/18 The stock Lightning rim is 18x8.5 0r 18x9.0 depending on wildcard.
