Any of you have any experience with worthless checks?

I see that the Charleston county solicitor has a worthless check unit. Any insight? Good success rate or a waste of time?

Ive got a small check (150 + 12 fee), just seeing if its worth my time to drive down to the solicitor and pursue this.

Thanks.

I see a lot of people with conviction of worthless checks on their rap sheep. You are correct it is the county that pursues it. As far as convictions it looks good but I have no idea about recouping money. If you don't say anything then it's like it never happened and the shithead that ripped you off got away with it.

Go to the solicitors web site. Fill out the form. Take it down to the solicitors office with the bad check.

Ive got a shit ton to do at the shop and Id have to leave and drive down town, which I hate. Just a big inconvenience for me and I wanted to hear from a LEO or lawyer who has seen if the WCU really works (convictions) or if its just a waste of time.

An officer just said that he has seen convictions, so Ill be taking my happy ass down town to file this check.

A warrant will be sworn out for their arrest. The warrant will likely never be "served", but if they get stopped for say, illegal window tint, they ~should~ be arrested.

If they have ignored you (which we all know is damned near impossible to do), go file it.

I thought you were going to file on that "Cash 4 Clunkers" guy?

I was. he quit posting on craigslist, my bank made me jump through hoops to get the "official" bad check, and I never found the time and the time limit for the check ran out. Im a huge slacker.

Do it, you will be able to sleep well at night knowing that someday, maybe 5 or 10yrs later, but someday they will spend at least a night in jail for it.
