What upper would you recommend? I will be ordering one this time.

Depends on what you want. If you're fine with a carbine and front sight, I would get one with an optic. THat Vortex Strikefire package is great. The strikefire is an awesome optic and costs about 175$. The whole upper is 379, so not a bad deal at all. I'm about to grab one myself.

Can always change the forend if you want later.

Just stay away from that PTAC upper, they are known to have problems. I know it's super cheap, but that's what you're getting.

Edit: It's 359

Still have to have a BCG and charging handle, but they're on a crazy sale too.

I really only want the strikefire.

Wanna split it with me? I'll buy it, you buy the upper from me? Sent you a message on FB.....

This is what I was considering over the strike fire combo.

Not bad. Only complaint I would have is the 1:7 twist rate, but it won't matter much for a general purpose rifle.

Matt go with the Vortex setup. Its exactly what I have on my PSA and it runs flawlessly. The Vortex is the greatest non expensive optic out there. I can easily shoot 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yds with it.

Good deal Matt. Lots of decent deals on BCG / Charging handles out there. I do recommend when you get a charging handle to get one of these to go with it. Makes it SOO much easier to operate.

AND get a BAD lever. Makes general operation of the weapon so much better.

The 1:7 twist rate works good on 75gr and up heavy match bullets in .223. Some barrels with 1:9 twist have trouble stabilizing some of the 77gr and up bullets. Some of the heavies, depending on brand, wont fit into a standard AR mag, so you will have to single load these. Deadly accurate, though.

That's my point. For a benchrest rifle and heavy loads, it's great. But for most .223/5.56 ammo out there at the major retailers, 55gr, MAYBE 62gr is all you can find for factory loads.
