View Full Version : Thinking about switching to Mac

I can tell my laptop has just about run it's course. I'm thinking about switching to Mac. Everything else I have and the family has is Apple and I love the simplicity- iphones, ipads, ipods- never a problem with any of them.

I'm a little intimidated by the thought of having to completely relearn how to use a computer though. Has anyone made the switch? Have any comment one way or the other?

if you're familiar with iPads and itunes and whatnot you'll be fine switching to mac. theres a bit of a learning curve but you learned how to use an iphone so you can learn to use a macbook... i've been considering getting one for photos.

Ugh... Microsoft seems to be doing everything they can to boost mac sales, eg vista & win8.

I switched to all MAC about 2 years ago, only regret was waiting that long. I have 2 mac mini's, macbook pro, macbook air, 2 ipads, and 3 iphones. Just bought the newest macbook air a couple months ago, its hands down the baddest laptop I have ever owned. It does take a little while to get used to mac but once you're used to it you'll hate using windows. I run parallels and run XP to run programs that dont wont on MAC. Really the only programs I have that wont run on Mac are all my tuning software, almost everything else has a Mac version. Mac runs windows better than a windows pc can run windows lol. Since switching to Mac, have never had to reboot a single computer for ant problem, no crashes, not even one, can access any computer from any other mac or ipad, thats just a few things I like. Its crazy how well all my apple products sync or can be accessed from one another with no crashes or blue screens of death. Everything seems to work better on Mac, networking, adding or deleting programs, backing up files, etc... If I could run tuning software on Mac without parallels and windows I would never use windows again.

The problem is most people run windows on a cheap ass computer. Then they go out and pay a few grand for a mac and crow about how much better it is.

I have a custom built pc from 09 with win7 and it has been 100% trouble free. My experience with macs comes from an office I worked in from 05-07 with 4 brand new imacs and 2 macbooks. We constantly had network issues and all 6 macs crashed and had to have new motherboards in less than 2 years.

I took my old $300 dell computer and made it into a hackentosh, it could barley run windows 8 and it way faster running mac. Same exact parts just went from windows to mac. Mac's OS is just way more efficient than windows.
I wouldnt compare a custom built pc to any off the shelf mac or windows pc that would be a whole new topic. I have had a $3000 dell laptop and a $2500 hp laptop and my macbook air still is in its own league. It even smokes my other mac's.

Macs are always good, been rolling them ever since the Apple II came out. Much easier to use, more user friendly, less susceptible to viruses, etc.

you can get used macbook pro15/17 for a good price used... its quite easy to make the transition... a few of the normal things are a bit different.. the built mouse pad does not offer a "right click" which can take some getting use to. the command/apple button+another button make up for it but you forget the commands often if not used daily. easy fix is to get a mouse an go into settings and set it up.

i bought a used macbook pro 15 1.5 years ago my mackbook pro is a late 09 model still factory everything and it works perfect no glitches,no slow startup or blue screen..

i want to put a bigger hd and upgrade to a hybrid sshd which are a bit faster but not as fast as the full on sshd's.. also do a ram upgrade while i am at it. cheap upgrades.

you will love the mac's do it.

whatever you do use the same money, dont expect a 399 walmart computer will do the same then a 2k apple, i have a lap top TOSHIBA PORTEGE ULTRABOOK Z930, and if u g windows go with a windows pro, dont think the windows starter will be the same... windows burns its name with all the cheap companies burning names, if u go windows buy expansive

I never had a problem with Vista the 4yrs i ran it... I actually had more issues with Windows7 after the upgrade... I'm running 8.1 now on an SSD and i'm amazed at how fast it does everything. from power button to login screen is 6 seconds. The only prebuilt machines i use are my laptops. I've built my own towers since 2000 or so.

I'm still thinking about it....

I would compare the PC and Mac like I would compare the S4 and the iPhone. Can the S4 do more? Probably. Do you really care about the stuff it will do that the iPhone won't? Probably not. The iPhone is so simple, iPad so simple- the Mac seems to be the same way. Not to mention, you can take full advantage of Apple if everything you use is Apple.

I'm still running xp on a 10 year old dell server computer. With how little I do with a computer I'm not forking out 2k for a Mac. I spent 800 bucks on my asus laptop 2 years ago. No problems so far.

My personal computer runs Win 7. It's homemade with some of the best internal components and I have had 0 problems so far. I update anything that becomes remotely outdated on a yearly basis. I like the simplicity of Windows and the ability to manipulate it vs. the "locked out" feel I get from a mac. I've built and rebuilt tons of computers and would take a windows computer any day over a mac. Personal preference.

That exactly what apple wants you to do.

I've had my Mac book for almost 5 years and it's just as fast today as it was the day we bought it. We now have 2 Mac books (1 is a pro that also uses Windows OS), 2 I-pads, & several I-pods. You couldn't pay me to use a PC anymore. Also, I don't know where you guys are getting the $2,000 number but you can get a Mac for considerably cheaper than that, depending on what all you need on it?

Rocking that $100 Dell Inspiron 6000 with XP!!! It does work everyday... literally. We use it as a work computer in the truck.... traveling down N. Rhett right now typing this. Plus I have to use XP to tune my truck with.
