Sweet.. a car that'll barely beat a new 5.0 for almost triple the price.

DIGGLER

dont know why they moved the marketing strategies around with the z28... in '67 it was a rare 600 car run with components similar to what they used in the scca race cars. in the later cars it was most any ol' camaro with a v8. i think they should have kept it more of an aggressive rarity from the get go. the rs and ss package would have filled in between.

Who would buy a Z28 when the C7Z would be right at the same price?

Well there is logic with that, Very limited production, and for a 10 year old car it can still hold its own and is still one of the best mustangs ever made. The "collectable" part is what keeps the value high, and the pricetag was only 32k new... Thats still "affordable" for guys who want cars like these. On the other hand 75k is out of reach for 90% of the people who want these cars, and the other 10% that can afford them, will go 50/50 with a corvette.

the "collectability" comes from the ford fans. i think they are a badass car, but i have no desire to own one myself. to me, the value is about the same as most any other 11 year old vehicle that originally sold for $32k. i would buy a newer 5.0 before dropping 20k on an 11 year old cobra...

75k for the z28 is too dadgum much.

So your a dumbass to pay 20 grand for a Cobra and with 3K have over 500rwhp? Yet this is a crank 505 for 75,000? And the Cobra is 11 years old? Only made for two years, forged motor that can handle a good amount of boost. Care to rethink that? And sure the 5.0 is a much better car, 8 years later that has the same TQ and 22 more HP yet from an NA engine. But it takes more money to get to 500rwhp than a Cobra. Plus I can honestly say my 5.0 will never put a smile on my face like my Cobra did.

I get it, i like the 5.0 too. But in 10 years how much do you think a 2012 5.0 will be worth... porbably 6-10k like the 03/04 GT is worth now. And in 10 more years i bet the 03/04 cobra will still be worth 17k+. They are all money pits, but i like having a car that there may be a lot of copys of, but that are not that seen on the road... even when mine doesnt see the road lol.

DIGGLER

i don't care how many years it was made, its an 11 year old car that was not much faster than the new 5.0 cars, and its still selling for a couple thousand less than it sold for new. should they still be worth alot, sure, since they are desireable... but i think 20-25k is too much for most of them.
i feel the same way about fox body coupes. overvalued because people have labeled them as collector cars. everybody wants what everybody else wants. like baseball cards.

if you guys want to pay that much for those cars its up to you.

It's pretty much a dollar for dollar on each car so you could do the same to the Cobra and your in the same boat. The good thing about the Cobra is simply changing boost levels for CHEAP. Something NA cars obviously don't have the option of doing.

Nope, 19,140 cars in not rare compared to a Chevy/Cobalt/Turbo Charged/Manual/Red Seat/18" Wheels/35" Tires/45psi air installed.

See what I did there? Besides....how could you even compare the Cobra to shit? Of course the Cobra has higher numbers...no one is buying SHIT. And now I'm the asshole....lol

Its easy to pick 2 years out of any production car and compare it to another, but chevy made the cobalt for more than 2 years... so there were more made than 03/04 cobras. Then you can try to say ford made a ton of cobras from 93-04... plain and simple people will pay the money for the cobra, because people still want them... People dont want a cobalt... so they are not going to pay for them as much.

Very true- look at gun and ammunition prices when something is splattered all over the media. Prices soar due to demand.

i'm talking about 08-10 ss/tc... in actuallity 10's were just 09 overruns so similar 2.5ish year production...

as for pricing they are holding their value better than expected. most of the tc's i've seen were in the 13-17k range. not bad for a 5yr old car that was 24k at most new...

people getting 20k for a car that was barely 30k over 10yrs ago is mind boggling to me.

Back on subject. There will be more or less two types of buyers. One will be the collector who will store the car and takes it out to C&C now and then. The other buyer will take it out to the track and beat on it. For a brand new factory car with a warrantee, not much is better for the price when it comes to a track car that needs nothing. Like it or not, its the truth. Time will tell if they sell well or not.

As far as new cars, im not really sure theres anything under 100 grand thats going to be able to outrun it on a roadcourse. The z07 z06 was over 100 grand new and thats the package youd need to run what the z28 does in the rain.

Of course there are better cars out there for the money in the used department. Zo6 vettes, 911 prosche, even an ACR viper can be had for close to that. The point is, for a new car that handles itself the way it does on the track, its priced accordingly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2012 was the last year of the Zo6, and GTR's are pushing 100K. To me, its only real competition is the Shelby. However, I would bet the Z28 will take it on a road course.

Everyone wants to complain about what new cars cost. I went to check out a new grand Cherokee a couple days ago and about shit myself seeing what one costs. I will probably wait a couple years for a used one.

If you want your cobolt or terminator to be faster than the Z28, good on you. Nothing said you cant.

GTR's are closer to 115k once its yours per a few recent owners up here. A Cayman R is simiarly priced but not as fast. a GT500 would get blistered around a turn and then go into limp mode on the 2nd lap. The current M5 is something like 115k now, C63 Black edition was well over 100k last i looked. a used ZR1 is about the same price but i dont think its any faster than the Z28 either.

with all of that said... i still dont see why its over 55k...

I must be doing something very wrong. With owning my own house and the bills that going along with it, 75k to 100k cars are just not in the budget, even with some of the crazy financing that the dealerships offer nowadays. Maybe the secret is at the laundrymat, I see people driving lexus, Mercedes, Cadillacs, and several sports cars there all the time..:?
