Its supposed to be 8 degrees here in the morning. Cold enough that were worried about driving on summer tires lol. just got this from my friend who works at michelin as a marketing and training guy and used to be their high performance application specialist, he daily drives a C300 sport benz on 19" super sports...

Best things to do to avoid problems with summer tires in general are :

1) Store your car with summer tires in a "heated or at least insulated" garage when the temps go below freezing

2) Avoid driving, especially when any chance of precipitation, below 40 F. Its an industry standard to NOT recommend driving summer tires below 40 F and its law in some countries and regions. Because of this
industry-wide standard, there are no guarantees or warranty's applicable for usage of any summer tires in cold temperatures. The tread rubber is just not optimized for winter temperatures.

3) Absolutely don't drive on these or any summer tires with snow or ice present

and then, some practical information:

1) Driving on dry road surfaces when temperatures are between freezing to around 40 F can be OK, if tires are given time to warm-up. Its very important to drive slowly with caution until tires are warm
to ensure the tires provide sufficient traction. In fact, after tires have warmed-up, we have posted some of our fastest lap times on closed tracks using the same compounds when air temperature
was below 40 F to near freezing.

2) Biggest risk to tire damage at cold temperatures comes when tires roll/move and they are not warm, for example: if you drive the car when it was parked outside overnight and
the tires are 18 F and you run thru a pot-hole or hit a curb, there is a chance to crack tread rubber ! The chance of damaging cold tires increases with colder temperature and with magnitude of impact or shock.

3) Not a good idea to recklessly move or handle very cold un mounted tires ! For example: if you have a stack of tires exposed to temperatures at or below freezing, and the tires are handled recklessly
(thrown or exposed to shock), there is a very good chance to crack tread rubber. Normally, the chance of damaging un mounted tires is greater than mounted and inflated tires because
its much easier to deform the tread area and cause cold weather cracking. Best to carefully move cold tires indoors to warm-up for several hours before any rough handling, especially mounting.

If you have the new standard 2014 Stingray (18"/19"), Michelin makes Pilot Sport A/S + ZPs that will fit; and the new Pilot Alpin 4 (winter tires in non-ZP) is now available.

If you have the new Z51 Stingray (19"/20"), Michelin has both Pilot Alpin 4 (winter) and Pilot Sport A/S 3 non-ZPs that will fit

Both the Pilot Sport A/S 3 and the Pilot Alpin 4 are new tire lines just introduced this year ...

Because the Stingray's original equipped tires are Summer Tires ... and there are warnings/instructions about use and storage, normally you can not make a warranty claim for cold weather damage.
However, in case of any special or unusual situation, Michelin will treat these claims on a case by case basis.

Supposed to be 20 tonight. They're even delaying school because of the cold (stupid). I'm on bald summer tires so I'll just be taking it easy on my way in to work lol

only thing im worried about is the civic starting. i think i need to upgrade the battery cables.... barely started the other morning when it was in the low 20's. 8 degrees might keep it from busting off.

It was 7 on my way in to work this morning. Traffic was light but the car did NOT like this cold... took almost 4 times as long to start defrosting the windshield... i would have scraped it but it froze moisture from my breath on the inside as soon as i got in lol

I always try to keep the hoses disconnected during the winter. A friend of mine up north had a pipe freeze/break due to his hose being left connected. The water freezes in the hose easily and then the ice will back up past the spigot and can bust your pipes.

Ah ok. I always leave the hose open after shutting off the spigot so that there's smaller chance of water buildup...but I'll go disconnect it.

both of my outside spigots froze up. got a heater on one now.

i usually wrap a shop rag around them (after I let Snake use it to wipe off MonteC's Fridge)
but I got lazy last nite.

yeah, leaving a hose connected is asking for problems.

off to check the heater out side...

That sounds dirty john...

people gotta defrost, boi!!!

it took a while to get the faucet in the shade to thaw out. there was a foundation vent beside it, that did not have a handle to latch it shut. had to get a scribe, reach thru, hold it shut, and put a few wood screws in it, to get it to stay shut.

other thing we usually do is run laundry all night (esp if exhaust pipe is thru the crawl space) and set the dishwasher to run in the wee hours.

you guys skeered me, i am gonna let a few faucets drip tonite, and leave the bathroom cabinet doors open...let some warm air on the pipes

Went outside to disconnect the hose and found that it was full of frozen water as well as the outside spigot. Can't even turn the handle on or off..frozen shut.. It goes into the garage wall. Garage has mediocre insulation. Shall I be worried about it bursting that pipe? I haven't noticed any leakage. I don't have any space heaters or the sort.

I'd take a blowdryer or heatgun and try to thaw it. Once there is ice its going to get worse.
