Need help to share with friend

355ci 4 bolt main block
Misc mods and internal work or course.

Under light/part throttle it is fine. At WOT it runs pig rich and fills like it stumbles if you try to stall the truck up and floor it. But it picks up after 2500 rpms or so.

Fuel pressure is around 3 psi at idle if I remember and WOT it goes to around 7 or 7.5.

Have not checked timing yet on it. But I am checking mainly if it is the carb that is holding it back. It gets plenty of fuel (can smell it out tailpipes) so that is why I am thinking air delivery.

Secondary metering jets need to be changed ....... lol....sounds like a good answer, maybe someone with real knowledge on carbs will chime in.

Well, carb is a POS edelbrock if that really mattters, and has a "blue racer cam" in it also. Don't know any other specs on it

Would love to help, but I dont know a thing about edelbrock carbs. If it was a holley I'd be all in. On second thought. dont they have a air door like a Q-jet. If so the door could be opening to slow.

Was talking around and I think 750 dp would be best bet. Caue maybe one day in the future SOON, Motor might need it.

Sounds like a spreadbore carb that has too light of a secondary spring. Probably needs to be a little stiffer, so the secondarys would open higher in the RPM range where the motor can burn it. Just a thought.

Do they work like a holley vacum secondary or like a Q-jet?

Q-jet. An Edelbrock doesn't have things like acellerator pumps, or power valves. It is gravity fed like the old Q-jets where the needles hang down in the fuel.. I am no expert though, I have only touched 2 of them, and they were pretty easy to set up.

eddle brocks and q jets dont have power valve but the do have accelerater pumps in them. i had a 750 edlebrock that would do that same thing. partly due to the pump partly due to the pick up ring in the distributor moving. honestly for me i dont know which was causing more of my problem. yours sounds like a carb issue more. if you are changing the metering spings might as well spend the other twenty bucks and replace the pump too. not hard to do. i have carbs around if you want to try one to make sure that is the problem. jmi

anything bigger than a 650? I kinda got some of the issues resolved. Falls on its face once and awhile when you stab it. I have fuel pressure back to 5.5 psi and leaned it out. The mixture screws were turned all the way to the rich side. Opec was loving that.

try this site http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/tech_center/install/index.shtml , make sure you check the videos as well, if you didn't buy the carb new and need an owners manual, they also have them on here as well. Personally, I haven't messed with Edlebrocks that much, i prefer Q-jets

Thanks. I already "tuned" the edelcrap and well it ran better. But the 750 with vaccum secondaries had it running a whole lot better. Just needed more gear. But right the the Edelcrap is back on the truck as it is for sale .
