I would make sure it has the options that a ws6 is supposed to have. When I got my 99 the guy I got it from kept telling me it was a ws6. It had the abs 16" wheels, cloth interior, no ram air hood but it did have a badge that said it. I tried to tell him it wasnt but he was insistent. I got the car anyway it was a good price and I didn't care about the ws6 part anyway. I have changed a lot on the car already and will be changing more

If ws6 is important just match the dash vin to door vin and verify the ws6 rpo code on the door sticker.

How man miles are on it and how much is the guy asking?

i was not able to get a mechanic buddy to look at it with me today..

from the pics he sent

it has ram air hood
has the badge on the back
as well as the actual wing (non formula)

what on the dash/door part of the vin is a indication.

cant say condition since i have not seen in person.

he is saying it has 130,xxx
asking price is 9k iirc..

If im not mistaken it says ws6 in the rpo codes on the door. You could also ask for the vin number and go to a dealer to get a print out on the car. That's what I did after I got mine since there wasn't a door sticker for me to look at. Im not sure if you can decode the vin on the internet thats why I said go to a dealer if you have the time.

Like said before a true ws6 will be listed in the codes on the door tag and a 01 should have the 17in wheels. Most 01s came with the old style wheels (which had WS6 center caps) but some had the speedline wheels which just have a pontiac emblem in the center. Unless the car is real clean 9k is a bit steep IMHO.

i kinda felt is was high but its also "asking price" so i assume he is closer to 8k or possibly 7.5 than 9.. idk tho havnt met face to face or seen the car other than a few pics.

im in now way in a rush but will bring some cash when i look to possibly put a decent deposit.

i would rather it be an auto... and in the 7ish range personally.

The add says that one is a 99.
If your willing to travel a bit check out horsepowerjunkies. I seen a couple T/As the other day that seemed to be decently priced.

Asking way to much for that. $65-7500 tops.

IIRC, GM put on a few things (the SS exhaust and wheels, hood & spoiler, decarbon shocks?)
and the SS and the WS6 were both shipped to SLP, and then SLP would put on all the 'SLP upgrades'

so you could get a bone stock SS/WS6, and it was ~30k, but a fully loaded out SLP car was 3~4k more, with SLP floor mats, trunk mats on the later models, and SLP ToTL exhaust, and a slew of other small upgrades.

so in other words, you have to kind of weight out what you NEED. IMO, anything over a 100k miles has no real "value" as a collector car. so many people have stowed away cars now, that in the future, the "garage queens" under ~30k miles will be the
"worth something" cars. (look at Turbo Regals to draw an anology...100k roaches are still roaches, but Garage Queen's are worth a mint)

a SS will say z28 on the door jamb sticker, and IIRC, in the glove box, since SS was not an RPO.

but WS6 has been a Trans Am RPO for ever, so it will have WS6 on the stickers.

the interiors (Driver seat) and dash (cracked top piece) seem to be the wear items,
and most TA's end up with V6 camaro interiors for that reason.

HTH, but may not....

yup, thats a 5500-6000 dollar car if its the one in that ad. RPO codes are king... badges are 35 bucks at the dealer...

Rpo tag will say ws6 and the vin. If that matches the dash vin it's pretty safe to assume the door wasn't changed and its a true ws6. I'd say $7000 tops if it's near 200k.

The headlight motors had plastic gears that stripped out. Listen for a whining when opened or one being slower than the other. Better yet just plan on replacing them with these .

http://www.rodneydickman.com/n113.html

Door panels often cracked at the top from the weight of the door itself and of coarse the dash is normally cracked. I was going to cover mine with some vinyl but when I removed it, it crumbled. New one cost me about $250.

Dealership doesn't make many of the interior bits anymore so be prepared to go hunting.

thx 4 all the info so far..

i have read on ls1tec about the doors and headlight motor's/gears stripping

i am not a big fan of the 200k+ motors.. i guess i would be ok with the chassis with a iron bock 5.3 or 6.0 thats got 120-150ish. i still have my truck to drive so i dont plan on putting a ton of milage on it fast..

was just looking at something fun.. had decent mod ability..

seen a nice looking ws6 with radials in mtp looked like it was on weld rts black car.. kinda what got me looking at them lol.. was eye catching.

guy at work has a ~200k 2000 SS M6 HT.

his door panels are dis-integrating from all the work he has had done (goes thru window motors like crazy). his window buttons won't stay in anymore.

he found two NOS door panels for $250 each, so bought them, but for $500, they did not contain ALL the parts, like now he needs armrests & stuff. he will be another few hundred into it to replace everything

"when a hamburger is $9...aint nothing else gonna be cheeep"

I don't worry too much about mileage on the ls motors. When it's their time they just go. I've seen them with 300k+ beat on and fine and I've seen them go under 75k.
