Can't find anyone in the boneyards. Do you have a neighbor who has a cousin who works with a guy who might have one? :hysterical:

I think I have a posi differential for a 10 bolt with 3.73 gears. Will that help?

I think I could just swap them over. Was it a 7.5 rear or the 8.5?

LEt me know a price.

I will see if it could work

Have you heard of putting a 8.8 out of a explorer in one? They are cheap and strong. Not a direct fit but close.

Jr. no the GN had a 8.5 10 bolt, the monte rear end is the 7.5. Not sure of the spline.

Wade I think Jr knows about the 8.8s, he's just hard headed. He fits in with bc?? :hysterical:

what do you need 7.5 or 8.5? i have both. the 8.5 is out the 7.5 has a 4.30 gear, with it but is still in my car. its 26 spline 7.5, i dont remember on the 8.5.. let me know.

Yes, I have heard about the 8.8 swap. Problem I have is someone cutting it down so I can still have the same track width as the stock setup. I do not want the tires to stick out any.

Fink. I will check on the track width of the rear. WOuld be killer with a 4.30 gear :D But will have to research.

If not. MIKE. let me know on the 7.5 stuff. I just have to figure somethings out on what will and will not work.

You dont have to cut it down. If you get a rear out of a 2wd it is only a little wider. You can make it up with the back spacing on the wheels. Yes you will have to buy new wheels, but it could still be cheaper than buying a posi, gear
and getting it set up. If you find a 8.8 with a 3.73 and a posi. They are fairly comon and they usally only go for $150 to $200. OK maybee not cheaper after getting a driveshaft made, but not to mutch more and it will be a lot stronger.

If the 8.8 option crosses your mind, maybe a little helpful hint in knowing that my 1991 eddie bauer explorer 4x4 axles that are now in my ranger have 3.55's stock....

Well, some 8.8 explorers came with 4.10's. Which would be up my alley. if 8.8 than 4.10/4.30/4.56 would tickle my fancy.

If gm than 3.90/4.10/4.11/4.56 would do it also. Gear is what I am out for.

I have a "built" 700r4 in the truck now, so hwy cruising with 3.42's is less than 2k. SO I can deal with almost 3k.

I just don't want to explode a rear with light vehicle and sticky tires.

well a 7.5 i gonna puke one day anyway, 8.5 are hard to find, fabbing a rear diff is getting expensive. hell if you get a nine inch housing i can get it cut to fit, and all brackets welded on for under $ but that is pricey and you can get some housings pre fabbed for less. but then axles, carrier, blah, blah, blah, but i got a spare carrier i can let go of too. its got a spool, i also got 7.5 mini spools too, my 7.5 is coming out for the new 9" going in so let me know.

The 4x4 axles are wider than the 2x4's. To wide for a S-10.

I thought the 4x4 and 2wd are the same on the explorers. Rear wise. That is what I found out.

I know there is a difference between 2wd and 4wd s-10's.

I kinda like the idea of the 8.8 and getting it shortened. But kills me on the redrilling for chevy bolt pattern. Don't want to give up the wheels

I hear ya. Just get c-clip eliminators while your narrowing it and get upgraded axles that already have been drilled for the chevy bolt pattern. You wont have anything to worry about then.:bigthumb:
