Duramax question

How much are used Duramax motors with an Allison trans going for these days? Not sure if it matters but I'm thinking about pre DEF stuff. Rolling around a possible project build in my head.

I just looked over ebay, looks like the engine pullouts run from 4000 and up and the trans are 1000 and up. Might be best to find a truck and use it. This might be something that would work though:
