Police break up I-485 drag racing

CHARLOTTE ÔÇö Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested four drivers and seized six cars after a group of people turned a 13-mile stretch of Inter- state 485 into a drag-racing strip.
The Charlotte Observer reported that some of the drivers raced at speeds in excess of 100 mph before police could stop them Saturday.
When police reached the racers, the group scattered.
Police Detective Louis Rango said the group had 20 to 40 drivers, and one driver reached an estimated speed of 140 mph while fleeing.
Three of the four arrested were from Charlotte and the fourth was from Dallas in Gaston County.
Two of the four were in custody at the Mecklenburg County jail.
A search is on for two suspects who ran from the scene after police arrived, police said.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
