it's a pretty crazy intake....it's actually a 2 piece- if you look close you can see where it comes apart in the middle.

car is slowly being disassembled now with the headers being built and the final things here and there.

I would hate to be the man that has to prep and paint all that!!

looking at the pictures it looks pretty ragedy, so i agree they do it no justice. it should turn out pretty good.

it crazy how much stuff gets destroyed, cut up, grinded on, beat the crap out of, etc when building a car like this from scratch.

Is that intake from Performance Induction Specialties? They just came out with one like that for the LSX world.

Car looks good. Have a question, one a car like that does it come with a base tune from Proline or how does all that work when your buying a ET basically?

my intake and heads came from CFE, that is about all i know about it. i wish i could give you some more info.....

i don't know what the norm from ProLine is, but mine comes with tuning from Steve Petty. I bought the entire drivetrain from them- motor, tranny, convertor, turbo, intercooler, all electronics, etc. So basically, they have noone to blame if the car won't make the power, or won't run the number. It probably cost me a couple extra dollars doing it that way, but i cut out all the finger pointing. Proline is also wiring and plumbing the car and doing the intitial startup. Since the same motor is already in 2 other cars and they have put down some serious numbers (world records), i feel pretty confident about it and so do they.

Here are some more pictures. I thought this was pretty cool-
I wanted the Racecraft Wing on the car so that when i had to open the trunk i didn't have to take the struts loose on the wing to do it. The struts on this particular wing fasten to the trunk lid and not the bumper, so when you open the trunk it all comes up together.
Well, with the same thought in mind- a portion of the parachute mount fastens to the area on the trunk lid where your license plate would normally go. That means when you need to open the trunk, you would have to pull the pins on those two struts to disconnect it from the trunk lid so it would open. (does that make sense??)
So on their own, without me asking, they did it a pretty trick way so that i don't have to take anything loose. They cut the center section of the trunk lid out (where the license plate goes), made a bracket with aluminum on it and ended up with this.....
as you can see, when the trunk is closed, it looks normal, but when you open it everything stays put. I like it.........

here's some pictures of the hood zuesed on and some of the rear wheels (not my wheels) tucked in tight. I wanted the car to sit as low as possible without notching any more of the rear frame rail than the rules allow and the tires to tuck up tight. they ended up having to shorten the rear a little more and order new axles to get it how i wanted it, but it turned out pretty good.

yeah, sorry. it's past my bed time.
it's actually got a little more to it now. coil over bracing on housing and wishbone on the front. can't wait to hear the crying. the setup is totally legal, but the rear suspension will be the first beef if this thing actually ends up fast.

Should be out of the body shop this weekend.
All the fiberglass work around the turbo on the front bumper is done. The fenders have been extended to the windshield to eliminate that plastic cowl piece. The hood is fitted.
All of the bars are painted charcoal grey. Only thing left is painting the bottom and inside of the car flat black and the engine bay gloss black. All the prep work is done.
I only took a few pics of the cage, didn't take any of the rest.

it should be- i just hope i can steer it straight.

i am REALLY happy with how the color on the cage came out. I knew i wanted to do it a dark grey, but had trouble picking the color. I finally just used the color code off of my truck and it is perfect. It is also a PERFECT match to all the powdercoating.

Car got a double certification: 25.2- good to 6.0 at 3200lbs and 25.4- good to 7.50 at 3600lbs.

If i quit changing my mind on some things, it should be done with the assembly by middle of next week, then off to be wired and plumbed at ProLine.

because they are fixed, non adjustable and they move the strut back a little in the strut tower. They are "questionable"- but I'm ok with being in the grey areas. The rules say "must bolt in stock location". They do bolt in the stock location after you drill a few new holes and cut the top of the strut tower a little bit. :bigthumb:

Yes, water cooled but no radiator. Ice box in the trunk pumps the water through the heads and then returns to the icebox.

Thanks. They were powdercoated a gloss black at first but i didn't like it and had them stripped and redone in satin. I think i like it now, but if not, i'm stuck.

It is. The body man did a good job cleaning it up so that you can't even tell it was cut and run through the inner fender. You can BARELY see where the bar runs along the fender in the picture of the exhaust. The bar is painted black so you can't see it looking into the wheel well from the outside. Hard to explain, but it's there.

Plumbed to the motor, it's actually not that low. Look how low the motor sits in the car in relation to the frame rail.

Whats the ETA on the car?

Going to be wired and plumbed Monday. That takes 2 weeks, then it still has to have all the glass put in, the body put back together, and then wrapped. I am guessing somewhere around 2012.

Ran into a little problem with the exhaust. I changed the spindles and it through everything off. They re did the exhaust and the car is pretty much ready to roll out the door to be wired and plumbed as soon as the other shop is ready for it.

I can also see from these pics that I am going to pull the frame back out of the dash, sand blast it and paint it. I know you will never be able to see it, but I know it looks like shit and it will bother me.

ya, i noticed it a few days ago in another pic. nothing better than seeing detailed pics of a car going together because once its done you dont see the small details at the track.

also, i know your not going to agree with me on this but, IMO, a stock suspension coil setup should still use the same type of spring in a similar location as stock. i really think that coil spring cars skirts around this and has a huge advantage over a leaf spring car. the triangulated 4 link is already a huge advantage let alone the coil wrapped double adjustables. it would be nice to see more types of cars competeing in the class. just my 2 cents

Yeah, I'm not going to debate rules because I don't make them- I just try to get right on the edge of them and find any grey areas as well. But for the record, you can't minitub a mustang without using the coil overs shocks. And there has actually been no real advantage seen to the coil over setup anyway- alot of chassis shops will actually tell you that it hurts the car.

What you can see in those pics is not nearly as controversial as what you can't see. (within the rules, but very grey) I'm not posting everything! :cheers

The 4 link of a mustang and the torque arm of an F body are hard to compete against regardless of the rest of the rules, that is why you don't see much of a variety of cars.

I know there isn't much stock about my "stock suspension", but it is what the class has evolved to and I'm just playing along. As a matter of fact, I don't think there is one single stock thing on my entire car except for some of the interior. I can't think of anything else.

Well, the day finally came. The guy that is wiring and plumbing the car was ready for me, so i picked the car up from the chassis shop (Sheppard Race Cars) and i couldn't be happier. It is currently at Joey Bell's shop and hopefully will be wired, plumbed and fired up within 2-3 weeks.
I couldn't be happier with Sheppard and the way the car has turned out up to this point. And I am still amazed that they did not scratch the car in one single place when reassembling it.
I snapped a couple pics before we stuck it in the trailer.

The car is almost wired, still have to plumb it. I HOPE it will be fired up end of this week or maybe first of next week. Only hold up might be the Big Stuff 3 box, we sent it back because they forgot to add a plug i need to the box when i ordered it and the fuel regulator is on backorder- I HOPE it shows up this week but it's not looking good.

We also switched injectors, so I might have some for sale if I can't return them. They are 160lb, I now have 212lb.

You are correct. One is a 225lb/hr injector and the other is just a block. It is able to switch to alcohol, that is the reason for the two injector per cylinder setup.

I am just very happy that everything was able to be mounted behind the dash. That is definately one of my pet peeves on a race car. I hate looking inside one and seeing all the wiring run all over the place.
When the dash goes in, you won't be able to see anything. Probably a big pain in the ass to work on later, but I like it.

I took it to 2 Keys Customs in Augusta, GA. The final decision on the paint scheme is Black on top with charcoal grey on the bottom. The colors will be broke at the body line that is right below the top of the fender and just below the windos. They will be seperated with a red pinstripe 1/4" wide.

I hope it turns out ok.

Tuned good enough to crank it up and pull it in and out of the trailer. I will put it on the dyno shortly.

Those window sure are clean.

Doesn't have a radiator or a fan.
And even if it did, that is only important on a street car.

Here is a summary of pics.
It's a 25.2/ 25.4 chassis built by Sheppard Race Cars. The motor is 454 cu in SBF from ProLine.
The car was built for radial- trying to go in the 4's to the 1/8th and 7.0's to the 1/4 at 200mph.

wess few questions on the air/water. lol i am sure u knew it was comming.

i love air/water ic... i believe full heartedly in them.

are u running a heat exchanger?
what kind of lines an 10/12?
are u running a external ice /water tank if so what are u useing to pump?

sorry everything is tucked up so nice in the back i cant really see the setup.

of have you thought about a progressive methanol setup in addition to the ic setup to cool/maintain intake charge temps. what fuel do u plan on running. c113,q116,?

for people that are not farmiliar with air/water.. i have seen them keep intake charge temps in thr 90deg range on the high side on a 110deg day..
as low as 50-70deg on average.. :)

No heat exchanger
20 AN coming out of the innercooler.
There is a water pump in the trunk.
I don't care for methanol. If i want to cool my intake temps anymore than i am already, i will do it with nitrous. :bigthumb:

Jeff

Screw the dyno numbers the car is going to run into the 4's in the 1/8th on drag radials the same set up has been 4.6x and proven already . But hey proving those dyno numbers are important because people don't believe it's possible to make serious power with a small block ford and a turbo big enough to eat small kids .

Im pretty sure he doesnt have a button on his dash to turn off the turbo like a nitrous system would.

Why would Wes need to lie about his car anyways? Its obviously more of a race car than any of us have. BTW Ive never heard of CFT or their 4 cylinder turbo race cars, but I have heard of Proline and their 8 cylinder turbo race cars well before Wes's car was built.

BTW he gain 130 hp off of an extra 3 pounds of boost. Not just 3 pounds.

Why in the hell would you take off a turbo and retune it to run on motor? That's just stupid. I guess there are a lot of things you don't believe. You know; men on the moon, Europe, fission, ect.

Yes you can run a motor without a turbo. But when you BUILD A TURBO MOTOR and actually install the turbo setup and get it tuned why the hell would you run it without it? It is not like its easy to remove. Just because many people build turbo motor vehicles for hopes on one day to have a turbo installed doesn't mean Wes did that. ENTIRE CAR IS BUILT AND DONE.

Btw, its a REAL TURBOCHARGER and not an electric one off of ebaY
