Well got the car back the other night after not seeing her for a year due to deployments. Gotta new engine and some goodies all around. Car didnt put down what I wanted but had to tune forTexas midgrade which is California premium. Running 16lbs of boost on the 2.2, 18* of timing at 48% humidity, dynojet, 82 degrees and made 527rwhp and 568rwtq. Was hoping for more but will work on this for now and see how she handles at the track. Mods installed were boostapump, American Racing Headers/midpipe one piece with high flow cats in stainless steel, boost, air fuel wideband/fuel pressure gauges, powder coated valve covers, oil catch can, Spec3+ clutch with steel flywheel, new short block. The clutch is hard to use and it feels like I am a noobie cause it either grabs or feels like your stauling it out almost. Sure I will get use to it but its not easy to use and hope its just the way it is cause a daily driver clutch it isnt at this point. Still breaking it in though as well as the motor. They put about 400 miles on the car before the tune but said to keep it in breakin for a few more. How does the sheet look to you guys and does this seem normal for the clutch? Also on deceleration the cars pops/backfires alot so is that normal? I'll throw in the dyno vid so you can see. Thanks in advance.-Shane

those are good numbers still though! I have a stage 3, not the +, and its like that too. Either on or off, but it took me about a week to get used to it.

Thanks for the reply man. Posted up on SVT and seems that shop is really low on numbers for several cars. The clutch is just like that..all or nothing. Dumped it alittle and it actually responding better than feathering it out. -Shane

once it makes its mating surface with the flywheel it seems to be able to be feathered out a little bit. Not the best clutch for a DD, but ill live.

Not bad numbers shane. What was the a/f like? That could be part of the popping sound you are hearing.
Shane I had a DFX in the Cobra and it was all or nothing no slipping it at all !
Isn't the 3+ a puck disk just like the DFX ?
Also don't worry about the dyno numbers just drive it and enjoy !

the 3+ is the "non puck" style I believe. My 3 is a six puck deal....I thought the + was for a smoother operation.

I have a DFX in my 66. On or off like a switch. Hates my Drag Radials.

The clutch is normal- i had a DFX in mine and hated it for driving around but that's what you have to have if you are making decent power.
The popping on decelaration is too much fuel. Mine did it after Amazon tuned it (if you want to call it that) the first time, but Tim at Modular Powerhouse pulled fuel out on decel and it went away.

Shane who rebuilt the motor and did the tuning? How many miles are on the new motor? You need to gap the plugs down a little bit, looks like you have some blowout up top. With TR6's and 16lbs you'll want to be between .029-.032. That steel flywheel is going to cost you a bit of power also.
nice numbers. pretty car.

Thanks guys....thanks Kev for all the help on SVT and think I answered most of them there. I am gonna change the plugs out to colder and lower the gap to .29. Will deal with the fuel issue with the next tuner as this car is about to get hauled to California. Thanks for the info on the "decrease fuel on decleration" though. The clutch is a beast if it is indeed working correctly. When it grabs it grabs but DEF not a clutch I would want on a daily driver! I have been driving standards all my life and this thing is a pain from a stop. There is just a fine line between engaged/disengaged I guess. My air fuel wideband pegs red at 16 when I let off the gas, around 70mph on cruise it bounces between 15.2 and 14.8. Never seen it go lower than 13 yet but have not gotten on it crazy either. Said to be a 11.8 which is good. The car has around 300 miles on it as well as the clutch. Still breaking it in which the tuner added could be a reason for lower than expected numbers. He wasnt a great tuner it seems and mentioned blowing engines and how the boss hates it when he does that..NOT REASURING but the shop has a great rep. At this point I am just gonna continue to break it in and go to the next size smaller pulley, change and gap new plugs for .29 and get a better fuel system and retune. When these bugs are worked out I am gonna abuse this car at the track and brake as many driveline parts as I can. -Shane

"Break driveline parts" say it isn't so. Shane long time no see. Nice to hear that you modded the cobra while you were deployed, now you just have to get it broke in and tuned the way you like it. Sounds great on the dyno video (makes me miss me old cobra) :brnout:.
I will be going across the pond soon but I plan on selling the lightning soon and getting something new when I get back (Shelby?). Let us know how your cobra project turns out once everything is done. Of course I could volunteer to drive it for you on the track to get you some really good numbers :gears:

Shane knows I was only kidding! Besides I was the one who totalled my Mach 1 in my quest for more performance. That's gonna be 1 bad ass cobra once Shane gets it dialed in for the track and learns how to launch that cluch. If I remember right, Jeff D and Darryl were really good at launching Jeff's cobra with the same clutch set-up.

HA HA HA @ Jason. Shit I tell people that fastest that GT has been is your time, I just dont tell them I WASNT driving it! Should see my new Mach1 Jason...beautiful DSG with 15,300 miles. I have some toys in route but she will remain the daily UNBOOSTED driver! Not going through the hassles I did the Big Yellow! Maybe later..some small twins! The Cobra...augh...well after I got her back from the shop the engine locked up. My luck strikes again. They are fixing it and I aint paying for it. They said...a cam locked up. Said the came was bone dry not getting oil.(OK) So they said that might have been why I put down the low numbers of 570rwhp and 530rwtq. I dont care what it puts down..make it safe and keep it running!!!!! I just wanna hit the tracks out here! Car scene is sick out here! Will shoot some pics over when I get all wheels, tires, rotors and other small stuff on. Laterrrr:finger:-Shane

Damn not again! I hope you get it worked out with the Cobra. You have the worst luck with Mustangs. I am so jealous about the Mach 1. We are moving to Omaha, Nebraska next month, then I leave for a year overseas. I would love to get something hot like a Shelby waiting for me when I get back, but we'll see.
