Tree clearing...land purchase

Does anybody know of any companies in there area that will clear the trees off and buy them? Or is that a thing of the past?


What company does perk testing? Roughly how much does that service typically run?

Some land says "no idea on perk testing" etc etc is why I ask that question.

I am looking at doing the purchase of land within the month. Unfortunately for me to get affordable land and nice size acreage there is no cell phone reception with at&t. :(

Getting paid for the trees on alot will not happen unless they are very special(old growth) or large acreage tract. Just not econimicaly feezable.
Perk tests are done by DEHC and you can apply at the county healt dept. where the land is located.
You will have to pay a fee, and stake out the location on the lot you want perked. Do more than one so if there is a problem they dont have to make extra trips, costs more.

I am looking at a 10 acre plot and only want about 2 - 3 acres cleared. So I guess I will just have to drop the trees myself then unless I was going to clear it all correct?

So I clear the land first before they perk test it or just mark out some spots in the woods and tell them to go at it?

The trees come down easier if you dont cut them, more weight for leverage. 2-3 acres is alot of mowing, just keep that in mind

I would pick the spot where you want the house to go and get it perked first, that way if it fails you can move to a different spot.
i would have three spots done in different locations.

A few things about land, if the road you drive on to get there is higher then the lot "BE AFFRAID". A good sign is if it is covered in pine trees- gum trees, bad.

im having a surveyor come out to mark my property lines, then going to the county to get a perk test scheduled. My Dad said he "thinks" the perk test is $75-$100.

If there are any trees worth a crap that are going to be cleared, you should be able to mention it to your clearing guy and possibly get a little discount. If they have the means to transport the trees (my clearing guy does) they can sell them themselves.

FYI- DO NOT CUT THE TREES DOWN AND THINK YOU HAVE "CLEARED" YOUR LOT. You have to remove the tree, root system, etc. You also need to muck out the building pad down to virgin soil to have solid bearing.

I know that cutting trees down is not clearing and there is more to it. I do know that. And of course I am expecting alot of fill dirt as well.

The land I am looking at has lots of oaks and pines. If I do pick up this land I will give you a call wes.
