very very nice. Was the entire precinct called on that one? I love it. Atleast the cops were reasonable and knew that money is money. :D

I don't think you can force a private business to accept any form of payment you like.

That's how convenient stores can refuse large bills, and vending machines don't have to accept pennies.

I'm no lawyer, but the cops may have been wrong here.

Legal tender is legal tender though. Vending machines don't because of the way it reads the change. And convenient stores do it for the fact of larger sum of money will be on hand , which is actually a safety issue when it comes to being robbed etc.

There is, however, no Federal law mandating that a person or organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services.

United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues. Foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts.

It could be argued this was a debt, but it would be a pretty vague argument.

I think what he did was funny, and I'd like to do it myself. I just wonder if it's really legal.

Ive done it before when I was 16-17. I gave the old H&R block in Moncks Corner $40 worth of pennies in a big Crown Royal bag after they screwed up my taxes and still charged me for doing some paper work. It wasn't that funny to me because at the time it was a lot of money and they willingly accepted the payment.

I don't care if it was legal truck or not. I know exactly what that guy felt like. Most tow truck companys that I have had any dealing with are assholes. My car was towed one time. I would have loved to have done the same thing!!!

Nice, read about this on multiple forums. I hate them thieves cause thats all they are. One time my car got towed from my own apartments which costed me 350 bucks. The apartments wouldnt even pay me back and just said sorry. -Shane

I had a car towed once as well from my apartments. Cost me $250. And we were suppose to go to Commerce that weekend. Needless to say we never made it.
