Depends on the ride. Usually about 500-650. Trucks would be about $800 (I think) That is plus parts.

I do rear gear swaps for $300 labor plus parts on solid axles. GM, Ford, or Mopar. Independent rears like Cobras cost more, of course, since the center section has to be removed from the car.

I usually end up assembling the gears about 5 or 6 times while changing shims in order to get a gear pattern I am satisfied with. The numbers you see etched for pinion depth and backlash on gearsets are a desired guideline to shoot for on initial assembly, but once the marking compound goes on, the truth is revealed. Not all rearend housings are absolutely true in their machining tolerances concerning pinion centerlines as related to differential bearing centerlines.

A proper gear contact pattern will give you quiet gears every time.

I also can weld on end tube housings for those of you that want to avoid leaky C-clip eliminators and go ahead with 9" style press on bearings and seals. Moser and Strange sell these componets. Housing narrowing can be done during this process, too. You will still have to order custom axles to go this route, even when not narrowing.

For you Fox body freaks out there, you can get more tire clearance to your quarter panel lips by narrowing your 8.8" just a bit. There is always more clearance on the inside of the tires than on the outside once you ditch the quad shocks. If you still have 28 spline axles and are looking to upgrade to 31 spline, consider the upgrade to press on bearings and 9" style housing ends while you are at it so you won't have to buy axles a second time if you consider running in a class with rules that mandate non C-clip axle retention.

Well, I guess that was the last gear swap done at Jones for members of this board. It would be impossible to beat Gerald's attention to detail and quality of workmanship at that price.
