well, not really a toy, but I am having fun with it...
I picked it up last Saturday at a steal of a price..the previous owner only put about 90 rounds through the gun at it shows...it's brand new...I also got 180 rounds of ammo also...I'll post up a pic later of the target that I blistered...I also got a Galco IWB right hand strong side conceal holster, that is for sale real cheap if anyone wants it...I've got the holster on order that I want...if anyone is going wanting to buy a Springfield, I can only give my praises to this gun...I have only put about 100 rounds through the gun, but it never jammed, stovepiped, misfired...had not one problem with the gun at all...anyways, here's some pics...it's a Springfield XD 9mm subcompact...it has a standard magazine that holds 10 and an extended magazine that holds 16...

I can circle the "sub-compact" if it makes it easier for you. BTW, GLOCK FTW

The two-tone XDs have a stainless slide. The all black mono-tone XDs are only carbon steel with Springfield's black coating. If you carry your mono-tone XD often, make sure to keep an eye out for any rusting so you can head it off before it gets out of hand.
As far as holsters go, check out www.crossbreedholsters.com. They have a horsehide backing option that has a much tighter grain than cowhide. Horsehide is much more resistant to letting moisture pass through vs. cowhide. I carry a fullsize .45 1911 in a Crossbreed Supertuck IWB holster everyday and it weighs in at 45oz. loaded. This holster practically makes this gun disappear under an untucked T-shirt and it handles the weight effortlessly. Expect to spend about $90 for their Supertuck holster in horsehide, but I can assure you, it is worth every penny.

Thanks Gerald, I didn't know about the rust...any areas I need to pay special attention to...also, the Crossbreed is the exact holster I was planning on getting ...it's nice to get good first hand knowledge and experience from someone using one...thanks...

Just keep an eye out for any early rust on the slide and take care of it with an occasional swipe with some gun oil. It doesn't have to be dripping with oil, just a light presence. That matte black finish is somewhat porous, so it will retain some oil all by itself.
As far as internal parts go among all the XDs, they are all carbon steel. A little oil while cleaning on these internals will keep them free of rust. Just use some compressed air to blow out any excess oil so that a light film will remain. Your slide is the main concern to look out for early rust, as it is likely to be directly exposed to your sweat during the day.
Congrats on your XD. My wife has a two-tone XD-9 service model and she is MEAN with it!. The XDs are fine guns. Springfield has done their homework on the grip size to accommodate all sorts of hand sizes, large and small. The grip safety is a plus in my book. It is a safety that you don't really have to think about satisfying. Just pick up the gun with a normal grip and shoot.

An interesting read that reflects on the durability and quality of these guns.
