I don't think this idea is gonna workout..too many things to consider. Just put me down for 25$ and put it towards the overall winner like the other sponsors.

I just want to sponsor the dude who takes the risk of driving his shit to the track day in/day out.
So now it comes down to two considerations:
Whether it should be about how many trips or how many miles you rack up in 2010.
I can see both points to this one. What is stopping one dude who lives in North Carolina who comes down for one race and takes the money? But...what about the guy who drives 50 miles round trip to compete 5 times? What about the dude who lives down the street from Dorchester and competed 12 times racking up only 60 miles of risk and endangerment through the season?
So please post whether it should be about MILEAGE or TRIPS to the race?
AND
And because some on the list run 8-9 seconds...unless you are some full blown import...you're not running a really high-stressed car that would be at great risk of failure. So I, personally, feel that 8-9 seconds are out of there right off the bat.
Should it be 7.99, 7.49, or 6.99 and faster?
I think this should apply to local people in the area. Not out of state people in NC.
I would say drop the trips all together and use mileage and the number of passes as the determining factors. Maybe work out a points system. For example every 25 miles is worth a point and every pass is worth 2 points.
7.49 or faster gets my vote, even though that puts me out of the running. Hope to be there in '10 though. It doesn't take much for an lsx vehicle to get into the 7's reliably. I run high 7's in my TBSS and not only do I drive to and from the track I DD it to work during the week (40 mi round trip) and frequently to western NC to visit family.
This is a great idea though.:bigthumb:

7.49 or faster and finishes in the top 10 on top dog list. 3 trips or more.
and i will drive my car to DD or Miday if it opens. bowman could be a expensive tow if the car broke. i have been towed from DD a few times.

Alright...so 7.49 and faster seems to get the nod.
The mileage vs. trips vs. passes is still a little fuzzy to me. We seem to only have input from 4 drivers and 3 points of view from that.
**EDIT** Nevermind. Too much to consider. Much easier to just to add to the pot and give to the winner.

Ray, just seperate import and domestics on 2 top dog lists. Because like you, I can drive my car to DD, or where ever, but 8 or so miles per gallon of 116 just isn't worth it. Thats is why I tow mine, not that its not street lagal, the NMRA class I run in is called True Street, and we must make a 30 mile road trip, so the LTD is D.O.T. legal for S.C.. I think I speak for alot of the domestics on the list, that have limited street driving on there vehicles for various reasons. I mean whats next, a point for being lighter then the vehicle you call out, or a point for getting better mileage then the vehicle you call out. All the different changes are doing is discouraging people from the list, and taking away from the real reason the top dog list was created, and that is to race. I mean you can make 2 lists, and at the end of the season the fastest import and the fastest domestic can split the money or put a dial in on their cars and run for the money, bracket style, or whatever. If an import feels they have what it takes and can except the domestic rules, they can cross over, and run in the import and domestic classes. I guess what I am saying is I look forward to racing you, or Superman Motorsports, or 1iron, or even harry when he gets his ready, win or loose. I just like the challenge of racing different and even faster vehicles, more then the small amount of money or even the title at the end. Just my 2 cents..:bigthumb:

This was not some incentive to get imports to join the list/ give them any shot at winning (just ain't gonna happen in a straight line).
This was a purely bipartisan effort to offer up some small acknowledgment for the guy who drives his heap-pile to the track to race (and it wasn't going to affect the outcome of the list or change any rules..it was a stand alone award not based on any wins/losses).
This wasn't an attempt to undermine the domestic's stranglehold of this community. You can put your tin foil hats and bug spray away. It's gosh darn money..who the fuq hates that?
Here is my 2cents. Kiley is donating his money to this award, I feel he can make the rules how ever he feels fit. It's his money, let him dictate how he gives it away. The winner of the TDL is going to get enough money and prizes that he isn't going to care that some one got a few dollars for showing up every race day after driving 50 miles.
After saying that I want to suggest that you don't have a limit on how fast they go. This should be an award for anyone on the list, if there is no incentive for the slower guys to show up to get there asses handed to them by the faster guys, and we get nothing for just showing up every month, then whats the point of us even being on the list? I think it should be giving to the person that drives there shit to the track every month, and if you have a tie at the end of the season, just break it with miles driving from their home. To me that is the only fair way to do it.
I know this will be impossible, but lets make the TDL something that is fun for everyone on the site and something that everyone looks forward to doing every year!!!

Yes, These are cars that go in a straight line. They aren't rally cars, scca cars or anything else. I am sorry that most import people set there cars up for the cones and stuff. Drag cars are largely trailered cars. Having one you can drive on the street is just a bonus. I think we will be mucking up the water even more with this. Couldn't hold back anymore. I am not trying to undermine progress. But come on. :cheers

I think it's a shame that the only way people will race or go to the track is if there is money involved.
All I want is my vehicle fixed and I'll be there to have fun for just the price of admission.

For the second time..it doesn't have anything to do with imports.
It was an award for the dude who drove his shit to the track and back and ran 7.49's or faster.
Oh yeah...that criteria has got import, scca and rally written all over it. You're not one of those guys that believes in Global Warming or that 9/11 was an inside job, are ya'?
Some can't see past the avatar so I'll change it to my Taurus. Maybe that will help deflect some of the knee-jerking, anti-import sentiment? I've owned more American cars than Jap cars, so you're barking up the wrong tree.
P.S...that award doesn't exist anymore. It is now just money in the pot for the overall winner. No need to argue about what MY INTENTIONS for it were!

BTW..I can tell by that subtle change in tone that the Taurus has your respect. It's Ford's answer to the Z-car. Respect.

I really dont feel like we need 2 lists at all.
me and Mike had a talk with the owners at Bowman yesterday. they will open the track for us on the 3rd SATURDAY of every month. to race your car it will cost $10. they are going to give us our own lanes to run our program out of.
it would be nice to actually get more 7 and 8 sec car in the mix. as the rules are right now(will probably have to tweek them a bit)a guy starting in last place like i curently am only calling out 3 spots ahead, even if i won every race, which i dout will happen because all you guys are a bunch a sandbaggers, it would take 10 months for for me to get to TOP DOG.
i feel this will premote alot of racing between all of us. maybe Kenny McDonald wont have to shoot his car with 500 hp worth of NOS to beat Mike's Ram but the race could still be fun.
if guys dont want to be on the list because they dont want to be shamed by a faster v8 car. fuck'em. their missing out. and trust me, i could have got beat 10 times yesterday by a car in the 10s, 9s, 8s and 7s. but i could have also beat a car running low 6s.
Not to mention, there is also a winner to the guy with MOST WINS. i dont think this will make a difference really how fast your car is. sure there will be things we come across that will need to be changed but in my small mind, i think it will be fun. cook out, do some racing, a little ball busting

I also agree with Dave, I think it would be fun for no money also, so it don't matter to me if he keeps his $25.00 bucks, and anyone else keeps their money. I just thought a second list would be better for the imports because when they call out a low 6 high 5 second car, which isn't me, they are going to think it is rigged, because they may not be that fast. Just trying to make it more fair to all parties involved, didn't mean to offend someone into a Taurus or monkey sucking dick thing..

Thread of the week, IMO.
I like Darryl's idea. Import list would be cool. Hopefully it would encourage more of these poons to come out and run if they think they're 'playing on the same field' as other, so to speak.
I have a few questions though... Does the list continue on from season to season with the last set of names? How did the current list get to be the way it is, was it simply telling what you ran and getting put on the board?
That doesn't sound right to me. Should be a fresh list every season, starting with whoever makes the first few passes for that season. Then, once the list is full, whoever else can start competing amongst the list. No times should be shown or told because that would discourage some to run, and others to bullshit. It should be like it used to be, if you want to run, line up and run. No questions asked. So long as the field that you run on is competitive, otherwise it will never work and people will not even try to get on. The problem I see is there might not be enough imports to fill up the list. I hope I'm wrong though.
I hope all of that made sense. Seemed a bit complicated when I typed it, but I can clarify if need-be.

They flipped the list to get more races. There are a couple of threads sticky'd in this section about it.
I don't like the separation of imports and domestics. I know what my CRX runs, because I have actually ran it at the track. Although, I have come to the conclusion that it is slow as dog shit, but hey, at least I ran it down the track a couple times to figure that out.

I know this is old news, but I think it could work. Mostly because Im sure I would win. All you have to do is average the miles and times they go. You could make a stupid trophy. Lika a gas jug or something. BTW. My trip is 134 miles one way.
Yea Wade, your def. in the running. 1iron drives quite a bit too, I think something like 70 miles one way and at the first running of the TDL he actually dove a little more because he towed someone home.
