What do you guys do if you find a loose dog with no tags or just a rabies tag?
I found one a few months ago. I took a pic, and put it up on craigslist. Gave the owner a few days, and then gave it to a lady who said she would take it.

Now there is a family that misses that dog, I would NEVER think to look on CL to see if someone found my dog. If my dog gets out I look for it, but if someone takes it into there house then I will never find it.

SPCA in Goose Creek is another source....I know if I lost a pet. That would be the first place I looked!

Fliers were put out, Dog was walked around the neighborhood every day for a week, It was left outside for that week. Everyday I woke up it was on my front porch. Then I made the craigslist post. Before the cl post, I did what needed to be done to get the dog to it's owner, just like anyone else would.

Put up fliers in the area that you found the dog. Make a sign and hang it in the neighborhood entrances and exits. If no one claims within a week, take it to the SPCA.
Than the owners will have to pay to take claim of there dog. If not. Post up pics and gender of the dog you have, someone here may be interested. I "could" be interested.
Take it to SPCA to see if Dog may be chipped.

I didn't find a dog, my dog got out today. I have never had this problem anywhere I've lived before, whenever my dog gets out if I'm not right behind her someone always picks her up and takes her inside. How the hell can I find my dog if its in your house! If these people would kick her and tell her to get home, then I would find her quickly. Tonight, my wife drove all over the neighborhood 2 minutes after the dog got out and came back in tears because she couldn't find her. Some dumbass around the corner from me had taken her and was waiting for us to post signs. Luckily when I went out looking I turned down this guys street and he saw me driving slow and chased me down. If he had told her to get lost my wife would have found her the first time.

I'd rather someone take my dog inside their house and post signs/keep it than for it to wander the streets and possibly get run over...or some thug find it and turn it into a bait dog for their pits.

Dumb.
If you see a dog and its not yours, then don't fuck with it.
If you saw a car parked in front of your house would you take it and park it inside your garage hoping someone would post signs for it?

Sounds good. Just continue to blame everyone else for why you don't keep control of your untagged animals...

I agree. Our dog has our Name,Address and Telephone number on a tag along with her rabies tag. Real easy. They used to have a machine at walmart that wound scribe all of this info on it. I think the Pet Smart has one that will do this also.

Joe i know your PMS is hitting you hard this time of month but before you make analogies make sure they make fucking sense. That has to be the stupidest goddamn analogy ive ever read.
Would you rather find your dog DEAD in the middle of the road or have someone keep your dog in their house and then all you have to do is put forth some fucking effort to find it. i.e. Fliers, vising the pound, CL, newspaper.
Or get your dog microchipped and the finder takes the dog to the pound BAM they know exactly who the dog belongs to, OR put a fucking tag on your dog so the finder will know where to take the dog when its found.
Take a deep breath, go over and thank your neighbor for keeping your dog safe.
I wish someone had taken my cat in when he got loose, we woke up one morning and found him dead in the road. He was tagged and chipped.

I don't think I blamed anyone for anything, my dog ran out and within 2 minutes we looked for her.
The analogy was a little over the top, but the point is: If its not yours then don't fuck with it.

I think thats what I was trying to do, I'm not the guy that lets his dog out every morning to shit on his neighbors lawn.

You are assuming that your dog got out and that someone immediately took the dog in there house. They obviously didn't want to keep your dog or you wouldn't have gotten it back.

They DID immediately take the dog into their house. I never said they were trying to keep it, these people think they are "helping" but what they are doing is making it harder to find the dog.

So much for trying to be good neighbor. Hopefully your dog will not get out again.

Or:
3. Call Animal Control and let the owner get a ticket for Animal at Large.
Most people would pleased as hell that someone took the dog in with good intentions and didn't let it continue to roam the streets.

Last week was looking everywhere for my neighboors dog some-one had been holding him and finally called animal control. They drop them at the nearest spca were the family will check if they are trying. if not some one who cares will adopt!

How did they know how long it had been out or if the owner was looking for it?
