I am pretty excited about this- not too many people get the opportunity to race for a Wally in their lifetime......

I'm pretty ignorant of big time drag racing so I had to look up what a wally was, that's pretty cool. I guess it's like an Oscar.

Times are tuff. Needed a new way to bring in new\more money. Pretty cool. Anyone of us could possibly race for a Wally.

I think NHRA has seen what the ADRL has done in such a short period of time with Outlaw races. Smart move on NHRA's part if you ask me, it just might be a little late. I am sure they will face doubters and haters, but at the end of the day there is only one place you can race for a Wally and that is the NHRA. With all the index classes, everyone has a chance.

ADRL is still the best show in town in my book, but it's good to see the NHRA trying.

I just wish they would bring back 1/4 mile racing.

I understand what your saying. But, I really think money is the drive. Also, I'm not bashing them. It is a good thing. Should be interesting. Although those events are going to get very crowded in the pits. Hope the tracks have taken thing in to consideration.

I was agreeing with you.........

ADRL is making a shitload of money off Outlaw style racing and NHRA wants a piece of the pie.

Good to see NHRA loosen up a little bit. I remember when they had a Promod class, and they ended up going to IHRA because NHRA dropped the class. But all in all they want some of the ADRL money for sure. Well see..

That's very cool. I love how they are even going to bring the "dyno racers" into it. Now all they need is a way for guys to compete over who has the faster computer, bench, bar stool...

from NHRA.com
"NHRA Unleashed will be a race event with entry fees, purse payout, and an NHRA Wally for the winners. The drag racing activities will include 10.5 Outlaw competition in four classes on the eighth-mile: Outlaw 10.5, Limited Street, EZ Street, and Modified Street. In addition, Heads-Up Weekend Warrior Sportsman Index Racing will feature five classes: 8.5 index, 10.0 index, 11.0 index, 12.0 index, and 13.0 index. These are the cars that race at every dragstrip across the nation and are the backbone of drag racing. They include a wide variety of muscle cars, compact cars, trucks, and even station wagons. A high-octane addition to the track excitement will be exhibition Pro Modified cars."

I'm pretty sure that only the Outlaw 10.5, Limited Street, EZ Street, and Modified Street are 1/8th mile.

The index classes *I THINK* are 1/4 mile. Besides those times for the index classes sound like 1/4 mile times.

I actually think top fuel and funny car are the only classes that dont run 1/4. I could be wrong though.

That is correct, the Top Fuel cars only run 1000 feet, but they are the only pro classes to do this. What the OP was referring to is a whole new event/series that NHRA is starting. Thats what I was referring to.
