I think this has been discussed before...

Does anyone know anywhere local that does ceramic coating? If they also did powdercoating, that would be ideal. I need to get the hot side of a turbo ceramic coated and the cold side powdercoated.

Thanks

dont use marchant for a turbo. put a turbo on a 301 turbo trans am from the 3rd Smokey and the Bandit movie and the coating they did didn't last three weeks. I cant remember if we had it ceramic coated or powdercoated but it wasn't applied thick enough.

I believe Austin Services can do ceramic, although powder is their main concentration.

Don't really know of anyone around here. Mark's in Moncks Corner does powder coating but not ceramic. I know you want local, but harry sent his headers to a place that was reasonable..

Tirado Custom Coatings in Texas. Jet Hot wanted over 500 to do my headers. Tirado is doing them for 250. 2000 degree.

It cost over $100 to ship a turbo, ground, one way. So yeah, I want local!

Good Luck. I couldn't find anybody local. I just found out about Marchant on rivers and did not call them. I think that is your only hope. If they do do Ceramic please let us know.

My Uncle who lives in Darlington said he used a place called Calder Powder Coaters in Darlington, he said he had some headers and other various parts powder coated about a year and a half ago and they're still just as great as when he first bought them and they do all different colors, he also told me about a company called HMS in Myrtle Beach, he never used them but heard good things. I dont know how far you are willing to drive, seeing that gas prices are so high it might be the same cost to ship them, but these are just a couple places I thought might be of interest to you. Just thought I'd throw these two companies out there.

NITROPLATE (http://nitroplate.com/ws/)

They are out of TN and have pretty quick turn around time. Couldnt you take the housings off the center section and just ship them? It should be some what ligher/cheaper.

Yeah, duh! Of course I am going to take it apart- I don't know why I was thinking it would still be 55 pounds. LOL

I guess I could just ship it to Atlanta and let the same people do it that did my other one.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious! I'm a little slow sometimes.

I double checked with Mark in Moncks Corner and it turns out that he CAN do ceramic coating. I will be taking it to him.

Dam, Wish I had known that. Does that statement mean he doesn't normally?

he is a good friend of mine and when i asked him he basically said he likes to do as much as possible at once bc he has to clear out the whole shop to spray the parts bc it goes everywhere and i believe he only does flat black

I'm in for a set of 258 Hedman 6 into 2 headers for the hoopty. Flat black would be fine.

I've heard good things about Mark's work product from different folks but I have never met him.

Just double check on the temperature because if Mark's is also 2000 deg like Harry said the other place does, that may not be enough. If I remember correctly on a long pull with my old DSM I'd regularly see 13-1400 deg C (2372-2552 deg F) on the EGT gauge. AFR would also have a bit to do with it but I don't think you run much richer than 11.7 like we do, you probably run a little leaner.

Come to think of it, my O2 housing on the EVO is high-temp powder coated from Marks but its fading quite a bit.

Just my .02

flat black will only fade so much. i think just as long as it dont come off

yes, and i was under the impression that what you had done was't 2000 degree ceramic coating. I do appreciate it though. guess i should have atleast called him to double check.

Mark needs to make up his mind wether he is going to ceramic coat or not. I spoke directly to him in person, and he said he wouldn't ceramic coat because it was too caustic and bad to breathe..

I knew you had told me that at another time, that's why i didn't even bother checking with him at first.

On another note- when do we get to see the 4 door again? Been a while.....
