www.jagsthatrun.com has the conversion parts. Here's another good site for s10 racers we belong to. www.s10racer.com there are a lot of very knowledgeable people in the s10 drag racing world on that site. There is also v8s10.org also.
a one piece driveshaft from an 80s fullsize chevy truck two wheel drive long box reg cab will fit. The 7.5 10 bolt will not take too much punishment either. I've read the 9" rear from a 70's bronco is suppose to fit too. might be a little hard to find one of those. you would just have to get the axles drilled for the gm pattern and a different offset in the wheels. You can go the 8.8 from an explorer route too like I did. There are a lot more of those available. They come in 3.73 and 4.10 limited slip, 31 spline axles from the factory

If you do not have the motor already, look for a 350 and go from there. Unless you don't care and want to make a cruiser than 305. But IMO, JUST MY OPINION, you would be pissing in the wind with a 305, especially when you add up the money to do one and a stock 4.3 with exhaust could tangle with it.
If it is a 1st gen you might want to change the rear gear out at least because most likely you will have a 3.42 but you could have a 3.08 based gear which would suck.

Until you get into the higher hp/tq range the MT ET street radial would be all you'll need. Size would depending on the power you have and the gearing. You do not want to bog with a 275/60-15 if you only need a 275/50-15 to get you down the track. For traction I would go with some "Daggers". They are Caltrax knock offs that are manufactured by a friend of ours and owner of the s10racer.com site, Diabolical Performance.
The 8.8 is not a hard swap to do. The rear is 3 inches wider than the s10's but that can be taken up in backspacing in the wheels. My rear wheels are 15x10 with 7.6 BS with 275/50-15's and still clear the spring perch and do not stick out. The 8.8 is also disc brakes in the newer models and have 3.73 or 4.10's in a 31 spline limited slip. You will just need an adapter that costs $2 from advanced auto to hook the brake line up. Grab the driveshaft too. you'll need the mating flange at the diff. and there is an adapter u-joint. I placed all the part numbers on s10Racer.com site.
Here is some info on 8.8's
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Axles.html
You will notice that some 8.8's in the rangers have 28 spline axles and others have 31 spline. do a lot of reading up on the rear you want to go hunting for. Then hit LKQ they had a bunch of explorers the last time I was there.
It all depends on your goals.

either will be fine. I would go 350 if I wanted to drive it any on the street. IMO, I would only go PG if you are going to run a numerical big gear and have some power anyways. But on a mild setup, I would go 350. Thats me. Everyone is different

I say 350 for now. KEEP the PG until you NEED IT. Get the 350 built by montec. When you destroy it than go PG. But I believe with your setup you will be fine for now on the th350
