Form follows function, but this still looks like art to me.
Incredibly light but still so strong. It's from the year 2001, so almost ten years old! Wish I could see a piston of today's cars :pop:

Engine specs:
V10
2.997 L / 182.9 cu in
4 valves / cylinder, DOHC
~800hp
18,500 rpm

Weight of the whole car with fuel and driver:
1322.8 lbs

Michael Schumacher and Ferrari won both titles that year.

Enjoy this piece of technology

thats awesome. whats a piece like that run?

btw, i don't think the engines are dohc. with the ability to spin 18,500 or more rpm the springs couldn't possibly control the valves. they'd simply stay compressed and float the valves. they are hydralically controled by a computer. thats what they said during a race a few years ago anyways

I am pretty sure they are pneumatic.

Actually, while still using conventional cams, F1 engines use a pneumatic valve spring.
Click the pic for more info. (Older article, but they still use the same tech-as far as I know)
