I have a spring compressor tool that I made that is similar to the one in the below pic.

You can use 5/16 wooden dowel rods to hold the lifters up. They are cheap & you can pick those up at Lowes or any other hardware store.

Get a small wooden dowel from Lowes, worked for me several times and no dropped lifters.

that looks like the Tim's tool i just found over on the ls1tech site..
oh and i just looked at the beer and its not 1878. but made by the same company (boars head logo).
and my friend, jay is lending me the spark plug air fitting.
so i just need to swing by lowes today.
and blkscls1, can you make me one of those? will a case cover it? i think you'd have to split it with jay though. LOL

the biggest pita for me was the balancer. I found a pipe plug to use so that the puller would spin in that. And then I used threaded rod to get it back on there.

they make a puller for them then just use a hammer to re-install

Its the 3 jaw puller, that's what I used. I used the existing crank bolt but I'm guessin all the pressure put on it to pull the balancer off galled the threads on the bolt. I had a hell of a time getting it out and then had to run a tap through the crank because the threads got marred up. I have the old bolt somewhere. I'll take a picture of it so you can see it, it's some pretty fucked up shit. Then I found a pipe plug, which I'll take a picture of also, which works amazing

yeah the puller for it is still like a regular 3 jaw puller that latches on the pulley where the 3 flat areas are then a rod goes through the crank bolt hole and bottoms out then the puller presses on that so it dont on the threads

Went through the same on Sr's LT. Is there a way around this? I am scared to death the crank is going to get messed up.
