I got a 1997 Pontiac Grand prix 214k on car with 90k on engine. I have a issue gas fumes coming into the car when my tank gets under half full. It all started when I got my catalytic converter cut off. It started having funny smells from the pipe, but I didnt pay it much attention until it started to have side effects a few months later (headache, nausea, dizzyness, etc) then I research the issue and found out the real benefits of having a catalytic converter. So I bought a brand new dynomax catalytic converter off of ebay and got it installed with a new 02 sensor and after driving the car about 10 miles the smell went away and the effects. I even drove the car to Gainesville, Fl to the Gator Nationals with no issues or smells. About 3-4 months later the smells came back including my symptoms from it. I realized if I fulled up my tank everything would be fine until she drops below half tank... The lower I get on gas the worser the fumes are... What could be causing this? So far ive basically installed a full exhaust thinking I have a exhaust leak including new exhaust manifold gaskets, muffler, gaskets, and catalytic converter. This smell is coming straight out of my exhaust at the back of the car. Driving with the windows down doesnt help much at all unless im on 526. Ive checked my exhaust for leaks twice and didnt find any. My race car gas fumes doesnt bother me at all just pump gas. Anyone ever heard of this issue before? When I check the car for codes it passes everytime...
