View Full Version : Windows XP Users
Lately my 2 xp computers have been really slow using ie 8. I noticed an update and reboot happened within the last day or two. Damn what a difference. IE 8 is finally just as fast on this 6 year old computer as it is on the new Windows 7 computer. (knock on wood)
After some research of the recent update, it supposedly had nothing to with performance, but was an emergency security patch. Hackers were having a field with a newly discovered flaw in the desktop icons. I don't think that was my problem, being that the problem has existed since around the time ie 7 or 8 came out.
Anyone else see an improvement on their XP machine? Anybody still have xp?

XP is still strong in the business world. It was the platform for the longest time. A lot of money tied up in it and a lot of money to convert deskstops, software, and training. XP will be around for a while.

IE makes my vista slow as balls. I switched to firefox and haven't had any issues. Google Chrome is also an alternative. Chrome is faster than my firefox, but I just don't like to use it.

I have Windows 7 on my laptop, love it. XP still works great on the desktop. Use Firefox on both. Glad I didn't get stuck with Vista

My XP machines have less than a gig of ram. Windows 7 loves ram, so I doubt I would see any performance increase going to 7 for what I use the machines for. I don't know what Microsoft did, but I can tell you the 2 old machines are now blazing fast. Just as fast as this newer multi core Windows 7 machine I use. I mean I had clean installs of XP that aren't as fast as these are now. No idea what happend, but I'm thankful for it. I was considering upgrading the old machines, now I don't have to worry about it. :ty:

i think 2 gig is min for a XP box.
i had 1, went to 2, big upgrade.
went to 4 gig of ram (3.43 by control panel) and no real diff for surfing net and looking at cars/bikes/trucks/donks
