I may have an opportunity to buy a 99' V-6 Firebird. What will it take, computer and wiring wise to put a LS motor in it? Also, what transmission (it's an auto) is likely in this car? Rear end? I'm not looking to put a ton in it or make it a race car, but a street driver. I know JP can tune it, but please provide me with a realistic scenerio of what is involved.
Thanks

I don't know if it will be needed, but I have a stock Z28 k-member and motor mounts I will sell cheap.

On the trans you have to change the torque converter, bellhousing, stator support, and input shaft.

You would probably be better off finding a motor and trasmission

you would need motor/trans/harness/ecm/motor mounts, pretty straight foward swap

Is it possible to get these items from a junkyard car? If so any idea what I'm looking at spending? The motor in this car is blown anyway. That's the reason I was asking about the swap. I can get the car cheap, but will I end up with more in it than buying a LS Camaro or Trans Am?
Thanks for the input. I know you guys know these cars and motors.

depends on what route you wanna go. the 5.3 liter truck motor can be had for like 3-500 complete. go that route and it would save you a little. a 4l60e isnt the cheapest trans to buy, you could buy a core and have montec go threw it or ust watch ls1 tech for one. the harness you can get for about 150 im guessing. get a 99-02. you could run stick exhaust manifolds and all

you can buy running ls1 cars for $3500-$4000, with them being as cheap as they are its not worth swapping a v6 car unless you have next to nothing in it
