No problem on the torch. Glad to be able to help someone.

The car ran really well yesterday. We let it sniff a little shot of gas and went a 6.05 1/8 and a 9.57 1/4 @ 136mph on the footbrake. Still have some tuning to do, the carb is a little lean right now. We will get that right, and then tune for the spray again. We were happy running 9's and had a good time as well. I'll get a video up of the 9 sec pass.

The Turbo truck couldn't hook, still ran some good times, i think somewhere around the 11.3 and 121 mph, all boost, rob tried the gas with a bottle at 500psi and a 50 shot jet and just blew the tires off.

he is out of town right now for a conference, so when he gets back hopefully the vids will be ready to post.

I was talking to Bill at Darlington, cause he asked the same thing about the rust. I am still tuning the fuel on the gas, but that is red Sunoco maximal fuel, so as rich as it is, it has a pinkish rusty look to it, out the gate. If you look in the dumps the padding in the magnaflow mufflers are that color also. We are just sneaking up on the tune little at a time, should be some 70's hopefully, by the time its done.

It was good meeting you and Lenny at the track yesterday. That mod motor runs really well in that car. Good luck with everything!

Thank you Will, It was also nice meeting you guys. Good luck with the car.

Give Lenny a call any time you may have any questions. He can help you out in the converter department.

Thanks, I work hard at the car. Trans desided it didn't want to back up when we went up for the 2nd hit. I'm hoping the modulator valve and it's nothing to major.
Bout that time I saw rain sprinkles anyway, the car ran a number out the trailer as soft as she was so it didn't bother me too much to load up.

..and my gf wasn't there so it only figures I would have no pics, vid or anything lol
I can't say anything really; I had my gopro in the floor board...............

how bad is darlington on tech? what is needed for a car on radials to make it through the 1/4? wouldnt mind seeing what my junk would do if it will make it

Smith Bros. Racing

The past two saturdays you just have to fill out your tech card and take back to the lady who gave it to you. Now i don't know if it is like that every time.

Well, here is the funny thing. I called Gerald and he came over to listen to the trans when I pulled it off of the traler. Guess what, no noise. Damit. Even took him for a ride while I flogged it. Still no noise. Going to drop the pan and see if there is anything to tell if there is anything to worry about.

Smith Bros. Racing
12-06-2010, 10:11 PM
That is good hear so far. Hopefuly you won't find anything in the pan and the car will be back on the track.

I didnt do anything but fill out my card and give it back, but you can also see my cage through the glass. Just go up one saturday and give it a shot. I think I over heard Bill at Darlington telling Will, that they are not going to reopen til Janruary, so check before you make the trip..:bigthumb:

ok thanks, i did put a roll bar in my car so i think it should be ok. just dont know if they want a driveshaft loop even though my cars exhaust will stop it from coming down

Typically IHRA rules apply. 11.49 for fixed roof and I think, like Carolina, they will allow 11.00 with stock floor pan before a bar is needed. They tend to be more relaxed during test and tune unless you are WAY under the safety cutoff from what I have noticed.

Darryl Buckner
12-07-2010, 03:36 PM
If they throw out the rule book, floor pans have nothing to do with it. Its 7.49 or faster 1/8th mile, and 11.49 quarter mile, also drive shaft loop, jacket, 6 point harness, ect for the above times or faster. Jeff Hines got booted at Jackson in the green car, so they are a little more strict then Darlington..:bigthumb:

How fast are you expecting to go? If you have a roll bar, helmet, long pants, jacket, blah blah. You will be ok to at least get one hit off.

If you go up there rump-u-lumping, open header, purging 300 smack threw motor, with nothing but a smile and sunglasses, they going to say something:hysterical:

Oh, don't put a whole bunch of faith in the DS, exhaust battle............

BAD BOB
12-07-2010, 08:29 PM
i built the exhaust, so its tough. my car is quiet so they def wont say nothing before the first pass and not fast enough to say anything after the first pass. the only thing is i dont have a 5 pt harness yet

Chillerman
12-07-2010, 09:52 PM
Bob,

Everyone is right with the rules as far as safety equipment is concerned. Go ahead and get you a harness. They will work with the stock seats. I did talk to Bill @ Darlington, and this past Saturday was it for the year. They will re-open on the 8th of Jan. weather permitting. They are a little more relaxed this time of year on tech on the t&t days. As the crowd starts to build again, tech will tighten up. Darryl I think has a rule book and can answer questions. Carolina is strict all the time. They busted me last year when I went 11.30's on the 302 with no harness. They put me right on the trailer for the day.

Nobody said anything to me. I told the girl I gave the card to I had a FULL cage, joking of course, maybe she believed me? I planned on putting in a 6-point roll bar in for being under 11.5, but im not putting in a cage for over 135mph.

I also see a difference between a car rolling off a trailer and a car that drives there, test and tune racing by myself.

I understand your reasons for "not wanting a cage" all well and good. Very sweet car btw best of luck to you with it .

But please give thought to the above....speed is what kills, not the time it took to hit the object.
